Celebrate your local chambers on October 21
October 21 is Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day (yes, it's real)! Each third Wednesday in October, communities across the country recognize the vital role of Chambers in the business community.
Chambers are everywhere; yet, a 2024 poll found that only 44% of Americans say that they are familiar with their local chamber and 70% wish they knew more.* The Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce works year-round to help local businesses connect, grow, and succeed. From creating valuable networking opportunities and advocating for the business community to supporting workforce development and driving economic growth, we're working every day to make Durham a better place to do business.
Supporting your local chamber means investing in the future of Durham. Whether you’re a longtime member, a new business owner, or a community partner, you can make a difference by engaging with the us, attending upcoming events, connecting with fellow local businesses, and encouraging others to get involved.

A midday musical moment: CoT performs at Durham Chamber
On Thursday, October 15, we partnered with another local "chamber", the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (CoT), for a free lunchtime concert featured the world-renowned Verona Quartet. Guests brought their lunches to the Durham Chamber event space and listened to jazz and classical compositions from the string quartet.
We thank the CoT for collaborating with us on this exciting initiative and we hope to partner on more events in the future.

Durham Early College partnership named finalist for national award
The EDU Ledger has named the Durham Early College of Health Sciences (DECHS) a finalist for the IMPACT Awards. This new annual program recognizes the people, institutions, and work making a measurable difference across higher education.
DECHS is a groundbreaking collaboration between Chamber members Durham Public Schools, Durham Technical Community College, and Duke Health to create pathways for students from high school into careers at Duke Health. The partnership welcomed the first class of 9th graders in August 2025. DECHS is supported by a $29.5 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies and is part of the organization’s first-of-its-kind, national initiative to create health care-focused high schools in 10 communities across the country.

Durham considers traffic signal changes to improve safety
Durham wants to hear from you! The City of Durham is considering removing traffic signals at 22 intersections as part of the All-Way Stop Conversion study. The initiative is an effort to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians. The proposed changes would evaluate whether certain signals remain necessary and explore alternatives that could help reduce traffic conflicts and improve how people navigate local streets.
The initiative reflects Durham’s ongoing focus on transportation safety and efficient traffic flow as the community continues to grow. Any proposed changes could affect how residents, employees and visitors travel throughout the city.
The city is asking residents to provide feedback through an online survey as the project continues. You can read more about the changes here.
