County Reduces Personal Property Tax Rate

In light of the sharp rise in the value of used vehicles, the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors voted at its meeting on March 3, 2022 to reduce the Personal Property Tax rate, more commonly known as the "car tax" by 13 percent. County businesses that also pay Business Personal Property Tax on furniture, fixtures and equipment will also benefit from this reduced rate, which is set at $3.90/$100, down from $4.50/$100.

The bills that will be mailed out in April will reflect this reduced rate.
Riverside Pest Control Opens New Facility

The Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting to celebrate the opening of Riverside Pest Control's new facility in Isle of Wight Industrial Park.

Riverside Pest Control, a family-owned and operated company servicing Isle of Wight and Hampton Roads, expanded and relocated its operations from a home-based business to a new 3,500 square-foot facility at 17210 Commerce Lane, Smithfield. The company provides pest management, mole services, termite treatments, and moisture control measures to both residential and commercial properties.
Smithfield Farmers Market Celebrates
its 20th Season in 2022!

The Smithfield Farmers Market, which is celebrating its 20th season this year, is dedicated to being a genuine homegrown, homemade and handcrafted farmers’ market. Our vendors are local farmers, ranchers, home cooks, crafters, artisans and craftsmen within 100 miles of Smithfield, Virginia.

The 2022 Smithfield Farmers Market is starting early this year to accommodate the need for fresh and local food access. Opening day is March 19th and the market runs every Saturday morning, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. through October and will close out with Holiday/Specialty markets in November and Christmas Food & Craft markets in December. Holiday/Specialty market times are 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Smithfield Farmers Market is held in the BSV parking lot at 115 Main Street in Historic Smithfield.
