Fraud Contact Info from TIGTA

Yesterday, Michelle Brasfield and Edison "D.J." Gunter from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) joined us for our coffee break.

You can contact them at:

Michelle: michelle.brasfield@tigta.treas.gov, (513) 476-4601 (cell)
D.J.: edison.gunter@tigta.treas.gov, (678) 205-6451 (cell)

Michelle and D.J. encourage you to contact them should you see any suspicious activity, even if it's not IRS related. They can make appropriate connections, and emphasize that even small fraud could be part of a larger ring. They'd prefer you err on the side of contacting them too much rather than not enough should you have any fraud concerns.

LEGAL AND LEGISLATIVE UPDATES - INCLUDING MEMO ON GIFT CARD TAX ISSUES
As a benefit for RGCA members, our legal consultants have prepared this memo addressing several tax issues related to gift cards.

The October legislative update has also been posted to the website.

Remember that one of your member benefits is 2.5 hours per year with Elish Meyers (lmeyers@rousepc.com) on any gift card legal matter.

MEET A MEMBER
RGCA is a group of talented, passionate, and fun gift card professionals who all work to advance the retail gift card industry. Let's meet one of our members!
Becky Chambers is Principal, Global Gift Card Program at Whole Foods.

How long have you been in the gift card industry? I have not been in the industry long. My background is in marketing and product management. That’s why I ask so many questions!

What’s one fun non-gift card related fact about you? I backpacked around Southeast Asia (living on about $5 per day) after college. Best decision I ever made!

What is something you think our members should know about gift cards? I spend a lot of time thinking about how gift cards can be more than a tender type and offer customers true value and utility.

HELP SHAPE OUR 2021 FORUM
Are you interested in helping to shape the 2021 RGCA Forum?

We are looking for volunteers to help plan our key annual event. The committee will have two groups - one focusing on the content and eduction, and the other on the overall conference experience.

If you are interested in sharing your talents and vision, or would like more information, please contact Quincy Gottwig at qgottwig@thergca.org.

NEXT MEMBER ORIENTATION OCTOBER 19
Our next Member Orientation will be on October 19 at 2pm CT/3pm ET.

This online session provides an overview of the RGCA, its initiatives, and how to make the most of your membership. Designed for new member brands, new staff at existing member brands, and anyone who would benefit from a refresher on RGCA member benefits.

Topics covered include navigating the member-only website content, details on legal and PR benefits, upcoming events (virtual and in-person), and how to get involved. There will also be time for questions from participants.

COFFEE BREAKS CONTINUE ON THURSDAYS
Our virtual coffee breaks have been excellent opportunities to share knowledge and connections between RGCA members. Remember to join us every Thursday at 10:30am CT/11:30am ET for casual conversations on a variety of topics.

If you have requests for discussion topics and/or would like to lead a discussion, please contact Megan Flanagan at mflanagan@thergca.org.
