Community Builders,
I wanted to stop and take a moment to say thank you for the hard work you have put in these past few months. As we responded to the needs of the Auditor General’s follow-up report and the Fiscal Year 2024 budget reductions, staff from every department stepped forward with true professionalism. There was not one moment that I did not feel your support for this community. You should be proud of your efforts.
With the Gainesville Regional Utilities Board now in place, our city is entering a new era. We close a door and open a new one. The City Commission will have an opportunity to focus solely on the operations of General Government and how best to deliver services and programs. This is a change and challenge we will embrace. I know you will demonstrate the quality and innovation that have become our trademarks here at the City of Gainesville.
I can report the attention paid to our organization by the State of Florida will continue. The members of the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee (JLAC) have voted to revisit the Operational Audit once again with another review. That phase also will include a focus on aspects of the Sunshine Law and the City Charter. As always, I will assist and support as needed while guiding the city and managing its operations.
This is the rhythm of local government. Challenges come and go, and it is our duty to meet each one with energy and determination. We will define our goals, deliver our best work, and never hesitate—ever aware that in public service there is no finish line. Another mission always lies ahead.
I am grateful for the skill and dedication you show each day. Our organization is a strong one. We will stay focused and keep moving forward.
May you continue to find value and virtue in serving the people of Gainesville.
