Whether you were in Huntsville for the live events, or viewed the programs virtually, Oakwood University's Alumni Homecoming 2022 is now in the history books. Activities and programming included something for just about every interest - basketball, golf, good music, good preaching, bike riding, and of course, opportunities at every turn to reunite with friends.

One of the Office of Alumni Relations' celebration features for our 125th year of Oakwood's existence, was a Fireworks Display at the Jacobs Memorial Silos Plaza. Pictured above are some of our alumni and friends who stepped out of the Aeolians Concert to get a glimpse of the beautiful fireworks display across the campus.

Oakwood University alum Kellie Hart, owner of "Ride WitUs LA," drove her bike trailer all the way from Los Angeles to Huntsville to coordinate the bike ride during Alumni Homecoming.
|
|
One of our newest events that was big hit this year was a 1.5-hour bike ride, in collaboration between Oakwood alum Kellie Hart, owner of "Ride WitUs LA," and the Office of Alumni Relations. She drove her bike trailer all the way from Los Angeles to coordinate this impactful event, and to maybe even launch a new bike club here in Huntsville.
Close to 60 riders came out at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning before the Vendor Village Super Expo and enjoyed the ride and fellowship. Ride WitUs LA also had a booth of bikes for sale at the Vendor Village and raffled a brand-new bike as well. What fun!!
Kellie is wanting to do it again and come back during Alumni Homecoming 2023. So, get ready alumni and friends' bikers -- it's going to be an event you don't want to miss.

Even though the weather made it necessary for us to change venues, from the Oakwood Farms Market to the Family Life Center at the OU Church, God blessed!! As we wrapped up the final moments of this year’s Alumni Homecoming 2022, we asked the University's Drum Line to march into the Vendor Village Super Expo at the OUC Family Life Center. They also marched in the Alumni Homecoming Parade as well.
Until next year, get ready and be ready for our next Homecoming 2023.

"Midnight Pancakes on the Lawn" Returns
|
|
Oakwood Alumni and Friends -- it’s time again to serve our students a “Gift of an Experience” at our first “Midnight Pancakes on the Lawn” since the COVID-19 pandemic. The students have waited three long years for one of their favorite events.
One of the primary initiatives of the Office of Alumni Relations and the Alumni Council is to create events that provide “a positive student experience” that they will remember forever when they think about their alma mater.
It’s happening Saturday night, April 23, from 11:00 pm to 1:00 am, and we need Alumni volunteers to help show our students what “Depart to serve” looks like. Simply email alumni@oakwood.edu and join in the fellowship.
Thank you in advance for your love toward our students’ experience while at Oakwood.

As part of its Student Ambassador initiative, the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (AAICU), sponsored a Meet-the-Legislators event at the Alabama State House in Montgomery on March 30, 2022. Oakwood Student ambassador Simone Vaughn, and faculty mentor Ms. Kerry Joseph, Executive Director of Student Financial Services, (pictured, right, with Senator Tom Butler) represented Oakwood University.
Accompanied by Ms. Carol Vucovich from the AAICU office, students and their faculty mentors visited the state State House, met several members of the legislature, sat in on a committee hearing, had the opportunity to view the full legislative body from the gallery. “Miss Vaughn and Ms. Joseph,” said AAICU President Paul Hankins, “represented your school and our association in a very positive manner."

Leave a Legacy at "the Oaks"
|
|
Pave the way into the next 125 years of success by purchasing a personalized brick on the Legacy Walkway, that leads from Ford Hall and Peters Media Center to the rest of the campus.
The Legacy Walkway Brick Campaign provides an opportunity to leave a legacy and support campus improvement at the same time. Our Legacy Walkway features names of donors, loved ones, special remembrances, and favorite sayings. Bricks are a great opportunity to congratulate a graduate, celebrate an advanced degree or accomplishment, or honor your loved ones.
