More than 1,300 New Students Move Into Their New Homes
The Class of 2027 is officially here. On Sunday, August 20, more than 1,300 new Tigers moved into TSU housing. They were welcomed by TSU faculty, staff, administrators, student leaders and alumni.

In addition to the freshmen who moved in Sunday, 400 upperclassmen will call TSU housing home for this academic year.

Classes begin on Monday, August 28.
TSU Culture on Full Display During New Student Week
New students, including freshmen and transfers, spent their first week on campus learning all about TSU culture and their new lives as Tigers. "Rip Me Out the Plastic" New Student Week included a food truck block party, Spirit Night where the students learned TSU chants and cheers, as well as the alma mater and fight song, and a carnival presented by the TSU Department of Public Safety.

Alumni will join students for the annual Pinning Ceremony and Tiger Oath Thursday, August 24. New Student Week concludes Friday with the HBCU Stroll Off to kick off National Battle of the Bands weekend.
TSU Ocean of Soul Set to Perform at the National Battle of the Bands
TSU’s acclaimed Ocean of Soul marching band will participate in the 2023 Pepsi National Battle of the Bands (NBOTB) on Saturday, August 26 at NRG Stadium at 6 p.m.
 
The NBOTB is the largest HBCU marching band event and the fourth largest HBCU African American event in the country. With more than 2,200 participating members from across the nation, the NBOTB showcases the top bands as a kickoff to the fall marching band season where each demonstrates a unique style, sound and talent.
 
The selection for this year’s competition include:
 
  • Florida A&M University, Marching 100
  • Langston University, Marching Pride
  • Mississippi Valley State University, Mean Green Marching Machine
  • Norfolk State University, Spartan Legion
  • Southern University, Human Jukebox
  • Tennessee State University, Aristocrat of Bands
  • Texas Southern University, Ocean of Soul
  • Virginia State University, Trojan Explosion
 
The annual event has built a reputation as an event celebrating the rich culture of HBCU marching bands while focusing on generating scholarship funding for participating HBCU bands and supporting various initiatives in the community.

Homecoming Theme and Schedule Released
Homecoming 2023 is set for September 30. The theme for this year's homecoming is "Tiger Pride: It's a Vibe."

Homecoming week will kick off on September 24 with a midnight breakfast for TSU students. The week's festivities will include events that students and alumni look forward to every year: the Royal Court Coronation, the annual Tiger Paw Golf Classic, the Homecoming step show,

This year's Homecoming schedule also features the return of the School Daze Alumni Sneaker Party, as well as a student talent show, Parade of Kings and Queens, a student Foam Party, and much more. Click here for the full schedule.

The Homecoming parade is set for Saturday, September 30 at 9 a.m. For the Homecoming game, TSU will play Lincoln University of California. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tickets are $25.

Historical Marker Honoring the Late Congressman Mickey Leland Unveiled During Ceremony at Texas Southern University
A new Official Texas Historical Marker for the late alumnus and Congressman George Thomas “Mickey” Leland was unveiled at Texas Southern University during a formal ceremony on August 18, 2023, at the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs. The new marker is positioned opposite the Official Texas Historical Marker for Barbara Jordan at the building entrance.

“The tribute was symbolic and illustrates to each of us that the works and good deeds of the Honorable Mickey Leland are not forgotten,” said Mary Evans Sias, Ph.D., interim president of TSU.

TSU Athletics Set to Host Community Fan Fest
The Texas Southern Department of Athletics will host its inaugural Athletic Community Fan Fest on Sunday, Aug. 27 inside the H&PE Arena from 1 - 5 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will officially kick off the 2023-24 athletic year campaign. TSU fans will have an opportunity to meet and interact with the coaches and student-athletes of all its sports teams. Posters featuring the fall and winter sports teams will also be available for autographing opportunities.

TSU students are eligible to win book vouchers and TSU Under Armour gear.

Single Game TSU Football Tickets At Shell Energy Stadium Now On Sale
Single game tickets for Texas Southern's home football games at Shell Energy Stadium are now on sale online through Seatgeek.com and TSUSports.com.

TSU will have four games at Shell Energy Stadium (formerly named PNC Stadium) this fall as the 38th annual Labor Day Classic against Prairie View A&M kicks off the 2023 season on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
