Breast Cancer Awareness Month -- Survivors Corner
Dr. Cynthia Johnson: A Beacon of Hope and Action
Dr. Cynthia Johnson, the Director of Administration & Educational Effectiveness at Texas Southern University, has faced breast cancer and emerged as a survivor. Her journey is not just a personal triumph but a call to action for others. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Johnson is urging everyone to move beyond awareness and take tangible steps to support those affected by this disease. Dr. Johnson is a prominent member of "For the Breast of Us," the first online community specifically for women of color who are battling or have survived breast cancer. This platform plays a crucial role in her advocacy work, where she focuses on:
-
Education: Providing vital information about breast cancer, its treatment, and recovery.
-
Support: Offering emotional and practical support to women of color who often face unique challenges in their cancer journey.
-
Community Building: Creating a safe and inclusive space where survivors and those currently battling the disease can connect and share their experiences.
Her message is clear: awareness is a starting point, but action is essential. Anyone can support research and treatment by donating to organizations that fund breast cancer research and provide treatment to those in need. Supporters can also offer time and skills to support patients and survivors in your community while using social media and other platforms to share information and stories that highlight the needs of those affected by breast cancer, especially women of color.
Dr. Cynthia Johnson's dedication to advocacy and education serves as an inspiration to us all. By following her lead, we can contribute to a future where everyone, regardless of their background, receives the support and care they need in their fight against breast cancer. She hopes that by sharing her story that others will join her in transforming awareness into meaningful action.

Softball Baseball Facility Groundbreaking
Big news for TSU! During Homecoming, the University broke ground on our brand-new softball and baseball facilities! ⚾️
This development marks a significant enhancement in the university's athletic facilities and underscores Texas Southern University's commitment to providing its student-athletes with top-notch resources. The new softball/baseball field is not just a space for practice and competition; it's a place where athletes can foster camaraderie, build team spirit, and cultivate a deeper connection to their school and community. Once completed, Yates High School and the Third Ward Community will also be able to utilize the facilities.
The on-campus location will offer students increased convenience and safety, reducing the travel time and logistical challenges of commuting for practice and games. This improvement is expected to have a positive impact on the athletes' academic performance as well, as it will allow them more time to focus on their studies alongside their athletic commitments.
Moreover, the creation of this field is a testament to the support and dedication of the university's sponsors and donors like the Houston Astros, whose contributions have made this project possible. Their generosity has not only enhanced the university's infrastructure but also invested in the future success of TSU's student-athletes, helping them to achieve their full potential both on and off the field.
