| | Thomas College Launches NASA-Supported K-12 Robotics Initiative | | |
Thomas College has launched a new NASA-supported K–12 robotics initiative through the Maine Space Grant Consortium to help Central Maine schools start and sustain FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge teams.
The “Building Aspirations through Mentorship and Robotics” project will provide startup resources, coach training, mentorship from Thomas College students, and monthly on-campus workshops to reduce barriers for new teams.
With additional support from the Perloff Family Foundation, three new robotics teams will begin in late 2025, each receiving competition-ready kits, NASA-themed curriculum tie-ins, and access to a January 2026 scrimmage hosted at Thomas.
The program also includes a statewide sharing effort, with materials to be presented at Space Day Maine in 2026 to help other schools replicate the model. Professional development workshops for new and existing teams will run from December 2025 through May 2026.
Schools interested in learning more can visit Thomas College’s website for details.
