HUD Publishes New Green and Resilient Retrofit Program Funding Opportunity

HUD published Notices of Funding Opportunities for a new Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP). The Inflation Reduction Act provided HUD with $837.5 million in grant funding and $4 billion in loan authority for this new program. This is the first HUD program to simultaneously invest in utility efficiency, renewable energy generation, and climate resilience strategies.

If you are an owner who receives HUD assistance through Sections 202, 811, Section project-based rental assistance, or certain other small programs, you may be eligible for a grant or loan under one of the following cohorts:

  • Elements Awards: targets properties that are already advanced in a rehabilitation transaction and need gap financing to fund specific utility-efficient or resilient elements
  • Leading Edge Awards: targets properties that are in early stages of recapitalization planning: these awards fund projects that will achieve a high-level third-party green certification; NGBS Green Certification at the Gold and Emerald levels with either +NET ZERO ENERGY or +RESILIENT certifications qualify for funding
  • Comprehensive Awards: targets properties with high needs where HUD-procured Multifamily Assessment Contractors will support owners by commissioning third-party reports and assessments to develop a scope of work; resulting plan will include whole-building retrofits to incorporate green and resilient design elements

NEW Funding and Incentives Resource Hub on Better Buildings Solution Center

DOE has announced the launch of a new resource to help industry professionals navigate and discover the many rebates, funding opportunities, and other incentives, including those available through the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

GRESB Checklist Added to Land Development Scoring Tool

To help streamline your clients' ESG reporting efforts, we embedded NGBS-GRESB checklists into the 2020 NGBS Green Scoring Tools. The checklists were previously added to the New Construction, Remodeling, and Certified Path tools, and were just added to the 2020 NGBS Land Development Scoring Tool. These new tabs identify the GRESB indicators that are fulfilled by a project's unique green features and performance. The NGBS-GRESB tabs are easy to use, as they are auto-populated from inputs on the Design and Verification tabs. These new scoring tools can be downloaded from our website.
