February 2025 Collections

Pennsylvania collected $2.9 billion in General Fund revenue in February, exceeding projections by $44.0 million, though fiscal year-to-date collections remain below estimates by $104.3 million. Sales tax and inheritance tax revenues outperformed expectations, while personal income and corporate tax collections lagged behind projections. The Motor License Fund performed well, bringing in $269.8 million for February, surpassing estimates by $23.4 million and contributing to a fiscal year surplus of 5.1 percent.

Congratulations Adjutant General Pippy!

Last week, Major General John R. Pippy was officially sworn in as Pennsylvania’s 55th Adjutant General, leading the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. He takes command of the Pennsylvania National Guard – the third largest in the country after serving as acting Adjutant General since September.

Recruiting Former Federal Employees

Governor Shapiro signed an executive order earlier this week intended to recruit and hire former federal employees to fill vacancies in the Commonwealth workforce. The effort pays particular attention to those experienced former federal employees who have specialized expertise in important fields like civil engineering, nursing, corrections, accounting, and more.

As part of the effort, a new website has been launched containing key information about state government opportunities that align with their experience. It also includes information on virtual and in-person job fairs for federal employees. The initiative was announced that Commonwealth’s second annual Job Fair in Harrisburg. Over 40 state agencies provided job seekers with information about public service careers and hundreds of open positions to nearly 900 registered attendees.
