43% of businesses now say rising costs top concern, Canadian Chamber of Commerce signals caution on government spending
On December 1, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s President and CEO, Perrin Beatty, issued the following statement on inflationary pressures impacting Canadians.

“Inflation continues on an increasingly concerning trend, which challenges assumptions about the timing and nature of our economic recovery from COVID-19’s devastating impacts on the finances of Canadians, the businesses employing them and the government’s books. With inflation at 4.7%, we are now at an 18-year high."
Letter to the leaders of the North American Leaders Summit
On November 17, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial of Mexico sent a letter to the leaders of Canada, U.S. and Mexico in advance of their trilateral meeting in Washington on November 18. 

The letter, written on behalf of the North American business community, encouraged the leaders to commit to concrete actions at their meetings to ensure all three countries make tangible progress toward achieving our shared vision for making North America the most dynamic and competitive region in the world. 
Saskatchewan Growth Coalition calls on the Government of Saskatchewan to immediately address municipal competitiveness
On November 23, the Saskatchewan Growth Coalition (Coalition) called on the Government of Saskatchewan to take immediate action to address the growing competitiveness problems in Saskatchewan’s rural municipalities.

The Coalition has identified two major problems that are severely limiting their ability to generate the investment needed to reach the ambitions in Saskatchewan’s Plan for Growth: inequitable municipal property taxes and a lack of financial transparency.
COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Self Test Kits for Businesses
To help support the Saskatchewan business community, we are distributing two-week supplies of COVID-19 rapid antigen self test kits for businesses with under 10 employees.

Our final distribution day of 2021 will be Friday, December 17.

Supporting the province's workforce through micro-credentials
The Government of Saskatchewan is supporting the use of micro-credentials by releasing Saskatchewan's Guide to Micro-credentials.

Micro-credentials can help build a skilled workforce that meets the needs of the province's growing economy and Growth Plan priorities.
The Government of Saskatchewan's support for women entrepreneurs
On November 28, the Government of Saskatchewan announced new support for women entrepreneurs in the province through two new programs, the Scale Up for Entrepreneurs program and the Digital Literacy for Entrepreneurs program.

The government also released a new Women Entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan report, which provides statistical information about female self-employment and women-owned businesses and highlights examples of successful women-led businesses.

Co-op investing in Western Canada with retail fuel sites acquisition
On November 30, Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL), on behalf of local Co-ops in the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS), agreed to invest $264 million to purchase 181 Husky retail fuel sites from certain wholly-owned subsidiaries of Cenovus Energy Inc.

This represents the largest retail acquisition in Co-op's history.

MLT Aikins' Indigenous Scholarship
Demonstrating their commitment to Indigenous engagement, MLT Aikins recently launched their Indigenous Scholarship, which will award $6,000 to one second-year law student in Canada.
 
The recipient of the inaugural scholarship will be announced in March 2022.
Flying Dust First Nation signs significant power agreement
A significant commitment to powering homes is coming to Flying Dust First Nation (FDFN).

On November 23, SaskPower and Genalta Power joined FDFN in announcing a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the Kopahawakenum Flare to Power Facility.

The 15-megawatt flare gas-to-power facility, which is expected to open in 2023 near Coleville, is an anticipated capital investment of $30 million.
Nîkihk store opens in Saskatoon mall
Indigenous artisan products have joined nîkihk cleaning products for sale at a new retail storefront in Saskatoon's Midtown Plaza.

The company, owned by the member First Nations of Battleford Agency Tribal Chiefs, began creating essential cleaning products for their communities soon after the pandemic began and became known to people who received free products at three tribal council vaccination centres earlier this year.
