A Washingtonian, Mr. James McKinney is an experienced creative professional having spent over 20 years as an executive manager with various media and music companies. He is an accomplished engineer, producer, songwriter, arranger, film-scorer, keyboardist, vocalist, musical director, educator, and philanthropist.
James has scored for film, television, episodic-series, and animation. He most recently contributed to the score and soundtrack for the award-winning films “My Last Day Without You” and “S.O.U.L Of A Black Woman,” which garnered his first award for scoring in the 11th Charlotte Black Film Festival (2020). His credits also include commercial scores for Discovery Channel and Johnson & Johnson. His performance, co-writing, and co-production has contributed to two Grammy nominated performances.
In addition to his work as a music producer, James is actively involved in live broadcast events and currently producing, directing, and curating for film, VR, and multimedia experiences. This work influences his innovative and groundbreaking academic research on blending immersive audio and multimedia for virtual reality and immersive exhibits. His work pushes the boundaries of traditional art forms and contributes to the development of new immersive technologies, paving the way for the future of interactive storytelling. His dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration and ability to seamlessly blend diverse creative skills sets him apart as a thought leader in the field.
