Volume 10, Issue 5 | May 31, 2024

Throughout the school year, our nearly 400,000 students have shown exceptional dedication to academic and extracurricular excellence, making us incredibly proud.

This is truly one of the best times of the year as we have the opportunity to celebrate our students and staff for their remarkable achievements.

From recognizing the amazing individuals who support the impactful programs we offer students year-round, to encouraging educational exploration beyond the traditional classroom, to celebrating once-in-a-lifetime student events - it is an incredible honor to be a part of our education community's journey.

These moments are what drive our mission to continue transforming lives through education.

In partnership,

Ted Alejandre

County Superintendent

"Beyond the Books" Honors Budding Student Authors

SBCSS had the pleasure of hosting the first “Beyond the Books” celebration, highlighting books written by students in our alternative education program.

In partnership with ImpactTruth, students from six alternative education sites worked together to write inspirational children’s books. They dedicated their time and creativity to become something that many people only aspire to be, published authors!

During the event, the student authors provided guests with signed copies of their newly released books.

The stories our students created highlight the importance of community, core values, dreams, healthy relationships, kindness and love. By focusing on these important topics, our students are helping establish strong values in our youngest readers.

Graduates' Success is Cleared for Takeoff

More than 90 exceptional individuals were honored during the SBC ROP Drone Pilot and Community Health Worker student graduation ceremony.

Students enrolled in the Community Health Worker program were equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to serve as health educators and advocates within their communities. The course is tailored for those interested in understanding the unique health needs and challenges facing our county.

The Drone Pilot Certification and Training Course provides students with the necessary skills to prepare for the FAA Part 107 unmanned aerial system (UAS) Pilot Exam and safely operate an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for commercial purposes. Students worked with the UAS Center at SBD and the San Bernardino International Airport for hands-on training and experience with UAV flight operations.

Students from this graduating class are over the age of 18, showcasing that learning new skills can happen at any age!
