Greetings,

Water is a precious resource in North Texas, and supplies are limited. But don’t let that deter you from having a vibrant, colorful yard. With a few simple adjustments, you can significantly reduce water consumption without sacrificing your landscape’s beauty.

One of the easiest ways to optimize your watering schedule is to leverage the expertise of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. Their free weekly recommendations can take the guesswork out of when and how much to water your lawn. For instance, this week, the grass only requires about 0.66 inches of water per week, translating to roughly 79 minutes of watering.

Beyond adjusting your watering schedule, consider these additional water-saving tips:

  • Choose drought-tolerant plants: Many beautiful flowers and shrubs thrive in arid conditions.
  • Mulch your garden: Mulch helps retain soil moisture and suppresses weed growth.
  • Fix leaks promptly: Even small leaks can waste a surprising amount of water.
  • Collect rainwater: Utilize rain barrels to capture precious rainwater for your garden.
  • Water efficiently: Avoid watering during the hottest parts of the day when evaporation is high.

Incorporating these water-saving practices into your routine can help conserve this vital resource while maintaining a stunning outdoor space.

Sincerely,

Heather Bordner-Ayyob
