Instant gratification became a theme as I wrote this newsletter. Usually a pejorative term, as we show here it can be used for positive purposes as well. We talk about tethered capture, a technique for reviewing photos instantly during a photo session rather than waiting days or weeks to see the proofs. We talk about getting new employees integrated quickly into your company by getting images of them to match the rest of the team. And we talk of the demise of the giant Polaroid 20x24 camera and the great art made with it. Hopefully this quick-read of a newsletter will be gratifying to you as well. SRK

Instant Gratification - Tethered Photography for Headshots
See your photos during your headshot session, not two weeks later.

One of the hardest parts for a subject during a photo session is knowing how they look in their headshot. At SRK Headshot Day, we link the camera to a computer so that the photos are immediately available for viewing. Known as tethered photography, this technique makes it easier for the photographer and subject to figure out what is and isn't working and to dial in the best poses and moods.

Read more about how SRK Headshot Day makes this technique a key element of our headshot program and see results of our recent photoshoots on our blog.

Frame your Headshot with Great Eyebrows
Tips From our Makeup Artist

Our makeup artist Andrea Ortega Costigan  says, "eyebrows are sisters, not twins." Many clients laugh but are relieved when they hear that reassuring statement. Here some more tips from Andrea.

1. Match your eyebrows to the shape of your face.

2. Vary the shade of your eyebrows slightly from your hair. Darker for blondes and lighter for those with dark hair.

3. Feather the pencil application for a sculpted rather than over-drawn look.

4. For men, have your barber trim long hairs.

The End of the Monster Polaroid
After Polaroid's Demise a Tool for Great Art Follows Suit

My memories of the Polaroid camera go back to my childhood. My father, an insurance agent, used to take pictures of damaged cars for claims evidence. I can still remember the smell as he coated the photo with pungent chemicals. Later he had an SX-70, still a beautiful thing to behold.

Recently, I took a class in group photography with Neal Slavin. Mr. Slavin is famous for his group photographs using a Giant 20x24 Polaroid camera. You might have seen photos by Chuck Close at the recent SFMoma opening using this camera.

The camera is about to be put in mothballs because the film for it is no longer made. Once Polaroid went away, no one else could afford to make it. Read the whole story and see examples by William Wegman and others in this New York Times article
