Wright Center One of 16 US Pilot Sites for Substance Use Education Training Project

The Wright Center is among 16 across the nation chosen to host a pilot program for the advancement of substance use disorder education and training.


Backed by the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Combatting Substance Use and Opioid Crises, the sites will utilize the 3Cs Framework for pain and substance use while operating.


Over 100,000 opioid related deaths are reported in the United States annually.

Climate Change Issues Dominate at PGW Budget Meeting

The Philadelphia Gas Commission Budget meeting this month centered discussions around climate change issues, including striking down a proposal to limit public participation in budget discussions.


In 2022, climate activists encouraged the Philadelphia Gas Commission to budget for the study of geothermal energy feasibility.


Although the commission is city-owned, operations are conducted alongside the nonprofit Philadelphia Facilities Management Corporation.

PA Volunteers Help Older Neighbors Age in Place

Wesley Family Services is a Pennsylvania volunteer organization that hosts the Open Your Heart to a Senior Program, which provides free at-home care services to aging citizens.


Services are nonmedical and include reading mail, grocery assistance, and help with making and attending appointments.


Spotlight PA discusses ways in which Pennsylvania volunteers are helping their neighbors age in place, building a stronger sense of community.

The Strong Labor Market Has Boosted US-Born Employment

A Brookings Research study shows that both national and foreign-born employment has increased as a result of the strength of the labor market, even higher than some other publications show.


This change in estimates may reflect migration and population statistics, as well as population growth measurements.

Most Black Hospitals Across the South Long Ago—Their Impact Endures

Over the last four decades, hundreds of rural hospitals nationally have been closed, posing a special challenge to black hospitals.


Although the 1960’s civil rights movement inspired Medicare and Medicaid, as well as the guarantee that Black patients’ access to the same health care facilities as white patients, the desegregation of Black hospitals also resulted in the loss of jobs and community for many small communities.


KFF Health explains the nuances of Black Hospitals both historically and how their closings have lasting repercussions.

Toward a Potential Grand Bargain for the Nation

America faces a series of contemporary economic and social challenges such as slowing growth rates, educational concerns, and debt, health, and tax infrastructure.


The Center for Collaborative Democracy has commissioned a group of bipartisan experts to develop a “Grand Bargain” to address concerns and issues surrounding national growth.


The Grand Bargain strategy aims to improve upon all issues as a whole instead of individually, a new method that will allow for collaboration across departments and solutions.
