Penn State Scranton Unveils Renovated Library, Nursing Suite 

Penn State Scranton unveiled a $13.1 million renovation project including a modernized library and a new expanded nursing program this week.


Wrapping up a year-long construction process, the library serves hundreds of students daily.


New equipment such as a 3D printer and Cricut machine, along with nursing simulators are now available.

Drug Overdose Deaths Among Philly Residents Drop, New Data Shows 

New data shows that although drug overdose deaths in the Philadelphia have increased since 2018, it has dropped for the first time in 2023.


The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has released its findings this week, which showcase data on overdose related deaths in the city, as well as results from drug related treatment programs.


These findings follow a national trend of decreasing rates of drug related deaths.

Pennsylvania Could Soon Expand Who Can Approve Medical Marijuana Cards

A new state proposal states that nurse practitioners and podiatrists could be able to approve patients for a medical marijuana card.


As of this year, only licensed medical doctors or doctors of osteopathic medicine can approve patients for medical marijuana programs, which serve thousands of participants.


PA Spotlight discusses the implications of the new proposal, which could expand access to treatment programs and help lower program costs.
