Wyoming County Advocacy Group Supports Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

The advocacy group Wyoming County Grandparents Raising Grandchildren helps provide resources and close gaps for grandparents acting as primary guardians.


The group’s services include monthly meetings and connections with food drives and other community resources.


According to research from the AARP, approximately 80,000 grandparents are raising their grandchildren across the state.

Vision Zero: Progress and Setbacks 

The latest data report from Philadelphia’s Project Zero shows both progress and challenges in the goal to reduce traffic related fatalities.


While many areas of the city have benefited from infrastructure such as cameras and sidewalk development, Broad Street has seen a sharp increase in traffic injuries and deaths.


More data gathered suggests that neighborhoods with higher levels of poverty experience more traffic related deaths and injuries, allowing the project to prioritize marginalized communities.

Shapiro Administration Highlights Resources for Older Drivers

The Shapiro Administration has held a conference to address the unique challenges that older drivers, who are rising in number across the state, and how they can continue to safely connect with their community and remain active.


Partnering with representatives from PennDOT, officials discussed more flexible and reliable transportation alternatives, such as the new online tool Find My Ride which provides older drivers with free ride share services.

Embedding Disability Equity into Efforts to Advance Upward Mobility

Recent research has discovered that most communities across the nation could do more to support upward mobility from poverty.


In the United States, disabled residents- who make up approximately one in four adults- are twice as likely as nondisabled adults to live in poverty, with barriers such as housing, employment, and education remaining key challenges to equity.


The Urban Institute discusses their Upward Mobility Framework, which addresses how to identify and improve key conditions to economic growth, and how to apply them across demographics.

Louisville Advances the Country’s Strongest Planning Tool to Mitigate Displacement

Representatives from several universities and the Initiative on Cities have developed a new tool to guide residential investment decisions and mitigate displacement.


Implemented by the Louisville Metro Government, this tool protects tenants from being displaced by rising housing costs and limit risks in areas where publicly funded development is possible.
