This PA County Added 100s of New Child Care Spots in 1 Year

York County has recently launched several initiatives to open numerous childcare opportunities for working families.


Through grants, the county has completed renovations, obtained new technology, and piloted more teaching-aid programs.


Childcare remains a critical issue across Pennsylvania, with nonprofits and legislators coming together to adjust new budgets and operations.

Philadelphia Housing Authority to Preserve, Build 20k Units

The Philadelphia Housing Authority is remaking its entire public housing portfolio and adding thousands of subsidized units through new construction projects and the acquisition of privately held properties.


In total, approximately 20,000 units will be funded by the $6.3 billion investment.


The Housing Opportunities Made Easy (H.O.M.E.) initiative is set to serve roughly 100,000 city residents.

Transport Program for Cancer Patients Seeks More Help as Need Increases

The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery offers free rides to and from appointments to those with cancer, with 27 drivers in NEPA.


Most participants are elderly or cannot afford a means of transportation, a common issue according to data from the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.


Road to Recovery is currently recovering from a decrease in drivers since the COVID-19 pandemic and is seeking more assistance to match an increase in need.

The program has raised graduation rates by 12 percent, a notable result since the program was operating during the pandemic.
