These Programs Can Help Foster Care Youth Succeed at College 

Kutztown University hosts the Providing Resources and Opportunities for Future Standouts (PROFS) program.


This program, one of approximately 20 across Pennsylvania, focuses on providing support for foster care youth in college.

New PA Housing Program Seeks to Help At-Risk Populations

A new $35 million housing initiative originating from the American Rescue Plan will assist at-risk populations secure housing.


Distributed by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, the statewide program will preserve and expand Pennsylvania’s affordable rental housing.


This program offers 0% interest and deferred-payment loans to private and nonprofit developers, and targets people facing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, and other at-risk populations.

Philly Community Garden Buys Vacant Land

Philadelphia-based nonprofit Original American Foundation is buying vacant land to foster community gardens.


The gardens are used for growing crops and produce, planting trees, teaching residents and youth carpentry and gardening skills, and hosting community connection events.


Expanding to dozens of locations, the organization delivers free bags of produce to local households and is aiming to grow more seeds in a greenhouse.

Although the homelessness crisis affects every state, data on at-risk populations vary along with state’s approach to addressing housing gaps.


The Urban Institute has developed a tool to monitor recent state-by-state data on homelessness and housing inventory as well as helpful resources.
