MTSD Enters Instructional Scenario B
|
|
During the 2020-2021 school year, we have managed a responsible return to school through varying instructional scenarios. At just over a year since the statewide school closure, with careful planning and collaboration, we are thankful to have begun Instructional Scenario B, providing students more movement and interaction with educators and our staff members with additional time to focus on the needs of each student. The only constant in the past year has been change, and we are so grateful for the engagement and flexibility of our entire school community throughout it all.
As we move forward through Trimester 3 in Instructional Scenario B, please note the importance of continuing to follow all existing mitigation procedures, which are more crucial than ever in keeping our students and staff safe and healthy. These mitigation procedures, supported by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, are important to keep in mind, especially as spring break approaches.
- Please continue to consistently and correctly wear face coverings
- Please continue to maintain an appropriate physical distance from others when possible
- Please continue to wash and sanitize your hands regularly
-
Please continue to limit non-essential travel (and continue to follow CDC guidelines if you must travel)
- Please continue to avoid large gatherings, especially with those outside your immediate household
Thank you for taking extra care in keeping our school community safe and our students and staff available for on campus learning.

Referendum Project Groundbreaking Begins Soon!
|
|
Last week, MTSD announced that we are just a couple of weeks away from breaking ground on the construction phase of our referendum project. Construction will begin at the elementary and middle schools this spring, and Homestead will break ground this summer. Elementary and middle school families should review your schools’ parent newsletters to read about more details specific to each school site. Updates, safety, and access information will be posted regularly on the MTSD Referendum Project Website.
We are so excited to begin the next phase of this project!

February Family Survey Results
|
|
To inform our improvement efforts, we shared a follow-up family survey in February on a number of topics including the level of effectiveness of students' learning environments, satisfaction with instructional schedules, and clarity regarding communication provided by the district. The following results are shared according to data from this survey:
- 97% of parents/guardians of on campus learners feel extremely or somewhat comfortable sending their student to school every day.
- 73% of parents/guardians of on campus learners and 75% of distance learners would rate their student's learning experience, to date, as Excellent or Good.
- 82% of respondents strongly agree that information about positive COVID-19 cases in their child's school has been clearly communicated.

MTSD Maintains Aaa Bond Rating
|
|
The bond rating agency Moody's has affirmed the Mequon-Thiensville School District at the highest rating possible, Aaa, making it only one of three of Wisconsin’s 421 districts to hold the top rating. This rating is based, in part, on the general good health of the district’s finances.
MTSD’s credit position is extremely strong, and its Aaa rating far surpasses the median rating of Aa3 for school districts in the United States.
“The continuation of our Aaa bond rating speaks directly to the strength of our community, and the fiscal responsibility ingrained in our daily operations,” said Sarah Viera, Executive Director of Business Services.
Moody’s noted the following strengths in its ratings rationale for MTSD: (1) strong management team with multi-year budget forecasting plans, (2) the district’s commitment to retaining current fund balance levels, (3) demonstrated ability to outperform budgeted projections, (4) moderate debt and pension burden, and (5) a strong local tax base.

4K Pre-Registration (and New 5K Registration) Is Now Open
|
|
Each year, MTSD holds a designated pre-registration window for four-year-old kindergarten. The purpose of pre-registration is to get an idea of 4K enrollment projections to develop class rosters and determine staffing needs. Families can also indicate their morning or afternoon class preference, and gain other useful information about the program.
The pre-registration window for 4K and new Kindergarten students is open until May 1, 2021.
Please feel free to share the link below with any Mequon or Thiensville resident families you know who have a student entering 4K, or new resident families with a student entering 5K in the 2021-2022 school year.
