Music Artist Releases 9th Album on Multiple Platforms
Jacksonville, FL (May 19, 2021) - Hamid Cooper, acclaimed percussionist and band leader celebrates the release of his 9th studio Album titled Godly Sorrow: George Floyd Era. The album was released on CD Baby across several platforms including iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon to name a few.
Cooper’s music incorporates his Christian faith, and he released Godly Sorrow in response to the murder of George Floyd, the trial of the officer involved, and the aftermath that followed throughout the world. His musical style can most accurately be described as Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz. His band, Hamid Cooper Latin Jazz, is a highly respected band which has performed primarily in Southern California for over a decade. However, Godly Sorrow is a solo project.
Recognized for his percussion ability, Cooper’s fans delight in his ability to play the congas, which serve as his primary instrument. Background instrumentals on Cooper’s tracks range widely from saxophones, trumpets, keyboards, flutes and timbales. The unique blend of instruments and sounds produces his characteristic style that keeps his fans coming back for more.
Of his inspiration for the album, Cooper said: “This CD is special because it has a spiritual meaning. I called it Godly Sorrow for a reason; because it portrays my heart and spiritual growth. It is who I really am. I want to show people that there’s nothing more pleasing than the effort to change for the better. We can, we must, do better. There’s nothing [better] than experiencing heavenly justice on Earth.”
Hamid Cooper is a Persian born artist with Danish citizenship, currently residing in the U.S. He is a world traveller with impressive compilations of Afro-Cuban Latin Jazz music with tunes such as a Cooper-arranged cover of Sonny Rollins' jazz classic "St. Thomas," Jorge Ben Jor's familiar "Mas Que Nada," and originals like "The Humble Man" and "Do Dat" make up the repertoire. Jazz greats, the likes of Arturo Sandoval, Ruben Estrada, Henry Estrada, Freddie Ravel and David Paich (Toto) have also joined him on stage for Jam sessions.
