Staying Connected with the Temple Sholom Community

27 January 2025 ~ 27 Tevet 5785 ~ Parashat Bo

Chaverim y'karim - dear friends,

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and is marked by the United Nations as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. I have a column, "Remembering those who saved us or how we saved ourselves" which I hope you will read here. I compare today's observance with what Israel established and what we mark communally in the Jewish world in the Spring, Yom HaShoah v'HaG'veurah.

You may want to link to a significant essay and discussion of this topic from The Times of Israel Daily Briefing from 27 Jan 2022, "How a new Anne Frank book wasted a last chance for answers."

May there be blessing from the memory of those who were murdered and executed, the children, men, women, elderly and infirm at the hands of Nazi evil - an actual genocidal machine. Whether we mark this day and/or Yom HaShoah v'HaG'veurah, may we work to protect and preserve the Jewish people and work diligently to bring blessing into this world.
