Integrating Faith @ Work
Angels Without Wings
Several years ago I worked at an advertising agency in Rockville, Md. There was a young Jewish woman who also worked there and suffered from health challenges. One day as I was about to walk past her desk on my way to a meeting, the Lord spoke into my spirit and said touch her head. Oftentimes when God speaks Words of instruction that we don't feel comfortable with, especially at our place of employment, we question Him or provide myriad reasons why we shouldn't do the very thing that He has instructed.
Well I was no different. I said that she would think I was crazy if I touched her head. I didn't have a lot of time to deliberate about the matter because I was approaching her desk. I swiftly walked by and touched her head and proceeded to the meeting. She glanced up at me and smiled.
Once the meeting was over I had to walk back past her desk. Before I got back to my desk she came running behind me exclaiming, "I knew it...I knew it. I told them that you are our angel watching over us."
She was so excited I was somewhat taken aback. But she continued to speak as the words gushed out of her mouth about my being this angel God had sent to them. She stated, "My head had been hurting so bad that I could barely sit in my chair." She went on to say, "But when you walked by going back to your desk my head stopped hurting. I told my doctor I know I'm going to be all right because there is an angel watching over me at my job." All she kept saying over and over was that I know you are an angel watching over me.
The part I found the most perplexing is that she never felt me touch her head. Sometimes we are so caught up in ourselves that we become a stumbling block to the miracle working power of God. I was more concerned about how I was going to look if I touched her head than I was about being used as a ministering agent for God to make a difference in someone's life.
Angels don't have to have wings. All they have to be is someone who allows God to use them in making a difference.
Interestingly enough we worked with "angel investors" who provided capital to other companies in order for them to fulfill their dreams. Each of us is an "angel investor" in our own right. We are depositors of God's goodness in the life of someone else in order that God's miracle-working transforming power can be manifested in their lives. This oftentimes can propel them into their destiny and purpose as their eyes are illuminated to the truth of God's Word. One plants, one waters, but God is always the one Who increases.
Since that initial relationship with that young Jewish woman, I have been in other marketplace environments where people shared with me that I was an angel sent to help them through a difficult period, provide words of illumination and encouragement, or just to walk along side them. I am always amazed at their words as I was the day that young Jewish woman ran behind me with the same declaration.
We have to be mindful and open to allow God to use us as "angel investors" in His Kingdom. For this reason, we have to move beyond ourselves to become angels without wings.
We have a responsibility to move beyond the four walls of worship and to seamlessly incorporate our Sunday worship into the reality of our Monday service. The marketplace is the new mission field. At the Oh Break Out Retreat Experience, scheduled for November 30-December 1, 2012, you will be empowered to become an angel investor in sealing the covenant marriage of faith and work.
Visit the Oh Break Out website and register before November 5th for $55. When five people register at the same time, receive the sixth registration free.
