DESCRIPTION:

Psychedelic medicines including prescription ketamine, as well as soon to be available MDMA and psilocybin have the potential to treat our client's mental health, trauma experiences and substance use disorders. Legislative action to decriminalize psychedelic medicines in the US is currently taking place as MDMA and psilocybin are in large-scale, multi-site clinical trials throughout the world.

Psychotherapists are increasingly being sought after to help clients to prepare and integrate profound psychedelic experiences to elicit meaning for long-term positive change. The EMDR Therapy Standard Protocol, Resource Development and Installation protocol, Future Templates and Alter-Reid's Trans-generational EMDR Therapy Protocol support clients to prepare and integrate insight developed during their psychedelic experiences. In Jamaica, other modalities for preparation and integration will include yoga, music and art.

This program is a retreat based experiential training that will take place in-person in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Two remote learning training sessions will take place prior to the retreat and one remote learning/integration session will take place after the retreat.

Participants will be able to legally experience psilocybin mushrooms in the comfort of a lovely beach front property while being supported by psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy trained EMDRIA Approved Consultants who have experience working with people in Non-Ordinary States of Consciousness.

Preparation and integration of psychedelic experiences are widely viewed as necessary aspects for transformative change and EMDR Therapy can augment, enhance and accelerate transformation. In this program, we will teach about psychedelic medicines including ketamine, MDMA and psilocybin, and discuss psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and its common terminology such as "set and setting" and "ego dissolution".

Participants will be organized into dyads to practice EMDR Therapy protocols with one another to prepare and integrate their experiences. EMDR Therapy's Standard Protocol and Trans-generational Protocol can also address challenging material that often surfaces in psychedelic journeys and be used during Integration sessions.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1) Participants will demonstrate how EMDR Therapy can support Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration (PHRI), a clinical model that includes the principles of harm reduction and psychotherapy. PHRI provides a framework for working with psychedelic experiences without providing the actual psychedelic experience.

2)  Participants will be able to define common psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy terms such as "set and setting" and "intentions" and how to adopt "set and setting" and "intentions" with EMDR Therapy.

3) Participants will learn about ketamine, MDMA and psilocybin and name the theoretical mechanisms of action purported to treat MH and SA disorders.

4) Participants will employ EMDR Therapy's Standard Protocol to support preparation and integration of psychedelic experiences.

5) Participants will review the Standard Protocol, Resource Development and Installation (RDI) and the Future Template (FT) protocols and practice using these for preparation and/or integration. Participants will be able to name two ways in which RDI and the FT supports psychedelic experiences.

6) Participants will learn about trans-generational trauma and explain how EMDR Therapy and psychedelics can support the exploration, interruption and healing of trans-generational trauma.
