Those in the Asian venture capital world remember Lip-Bu Tan of Walden International very well as a leader of investments in China tech, particularly semiconductors.
Pre-Intel and while he was running Walden and Cadence, I interviewed him many times about his deals and his firm's investment strategy.
It was a different era when US-China tech was collaborative, not the conflict it is today -- and I wrote about it then in two books, Silicon Dragon and Tech Titans of China.
Sand Hill Road investors played a big part in funding many of China biggest Internet successes, and profited.
US-China cross-border deals were open and active. The peak was 2018.
DC needs a reminder of how different that time period was before again attacking Tan for past dealings in China. (my view)
FYI, WSJ
He's due at the White House this Monday.
