On Friday, May 12, Berkeley Law celebrated the enormous accomplishments of the 504 graduates of the Class of 2017—303 JDs, 194 LLMs, 3 JSP PhDs, and 4 JSDs. The student-run chapter of the International refugee Assistance Project received one of UC Berkeley's highest honors in recognition for its work providing legal representation to refugees seeking resettlement. Congratulations to Class of 2017 grads and IRAP-Berkeley Chapter Co-Directors Natalie Cadwalader-Schultheis '17 and Rebecca Chraim '17.

Boalties Heading to Chambers in 22 States
Forty-two members of the Class of 2017 and 54 alumni will clerk in federal and state courts in 22 states and the Hague during the 2017-18 term.

Austin Ku '03 is currently starring in the Off-Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical "Pacific Overtures," directed by Tony-winner John Doyle, playing through June 18 at
Classic Stage Company
in New York City.

A Kind of Freedom, by Margaret Wilkerson Sexton '09 — Evelyn is a Creole woman who comes of age in New Orleans at the height of World War II. Her family inhabits the upper echelon of Black society, and when she falls for no-account Renard, she is forced to choose between her life of privilege and the man she loves.
A Kind of Freedom is an urgent novel that explores the legacy of racial disparity in the South through a poignant and redemptive family history.
