Berkeley Law is participating in the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC) moot court event this year, and the school is recruiting
law school alumni to serve as judges in February/March at local courthouses in Boston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. Consider volunteering for this prestigious moot court competition. You will help law students gain practical skills they need to succeed. Many states offer CLE credit for judging. The article describes West's work with SPLC to challenge the jailing of individuals for non-payment of civil and criminal court fees and fines. The piece explains the genesis and basis for SPLC's and the MacArthur Justice Foundation's successful federal lawsuit against Judge John C. Ross and Corinth, Mississippi for incarcerating individuals for nonpayment of fines.
