Class of 2013 grads Hash Zahed, Ryan Shaening Pokrasso, and David De La Flor went from living together in law school to running their own boutique firm, SPZ Legal, which works with emerging growth companies.
They heard all the warnings: Don’t mix work and friends. Don’t hang out your own shingle without first spending years in a large firm. Don’t offer new hires too much flexibility.
So how have former Berkeley Law roommates Ryan Shaening Pokrasso, Hash Zahed, and David De La Flor flourished running SPZ Legal? By ignoring them. Read more>>

Years ago, while consulting with law firms to help train their associates, Henry Hecht was asked to create a training program on depositions: how to take them, defend them, and prepare a witness for them. Not wanting to be a “talking head,” Hecht — Berkeley Law’s Herma Hill Kay Lecturer in Residence — designed a learning-by-doing workshop where associates took part in simulated depositions and got pointed feedback. "Offering a similar course at Berkeley Law was the natural next step,” he says. Read more>>

A new report from our Center on Law, Energy & the Environment assesses California’s push to improve its public rail transit capacity and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Volunteer Opportunities
We need alumni to help us with J.D. student recruitment so that we continue to enroll the most qualified and diverse class of 1L students. Graduates interested in volunteering for this effort should contact Erin Dineen at edineen@law.berkeley.edu.
Were you an international student while at Berkeley Law, struggling to navigate the complexities of both work and life in the U.S. as a prospective attorney? If so, then a newly-founded student organization actively seeks your help! The Global Student Association at Berkeley Law (GLOBL) is a student affinity group of non-U.S. law students that aims to support international students with their career paths in the U.S. They are seeking the advice of international alumni and would love to hear about your experience. If you filled out the form recently, or if you would like to connect with students, please contact edineen@law.berkeley.edu.
