Professors Abbye Atkinson, Laurel E. Fletcher, Katerina Linos, Jeffrey Selbin, Elisabeth Semel, and Steven Davidoff Solomon recently received what Dean Erwin Chemerinsky calls “the highest honor a university can bestow on a faculty member.”
Six Berkeley Law professors have been awarded faculty chairs, which recognize their contributions to scholarship and legal education.

Faculty Highlights
Berkeley Law Professor and bioethicist Osagie K. Obasogie was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, which honors those who have made major contributions to the medical sciences, health care, and public health. The academy touted his “multidisciplinary insights to understanding race and medicine and climatic disruptions that threaten to exacerbate health inequalities.”
Professor Orin Kerr spotlights the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent turn toward subjective rules for searches by police officers, and sketches a framework for how judges should choose between subjective and objective tests in Fourth Amendment cases. Read more>>
Professor Prasad Krishnamurthy explains why the fee to cash checks is too high and argues that consumers should instead pay a much lower, flatter fee. Read more>>

The annual Environmental Awards Banquet is a highlight of Berkeley Law’s energy and environmental law program and community, bringing together students, alumni, and faculty. The next banquet will celebrate the Ecology Law Quarterly’s 50th anniversary and feature the renowned Dr. Robert Bullard, known as the "father" of the environmental justice movement. This short program on the gender of Gideon v. Wainright will feature a discussion of recent research by Kathryn A. Sabbeth and Jessica K. Steinberg, indicating that the constitutional guarantee of counsel adopted by the Supreme Court in Gideon v. Wainright accrues largely to the benefit of men. Qudsiya Naqui, an officer with the Civil Legal System Modernization Project at Pew Charitable Trusts, will join Professor Sabbeth to discuss the potential implications this research for expanding access to civil justice. Register here>>
