The Legislature continued its frenzied schedule last week with a wealth of committee hearings. In addition to the Governor’s State of the State address last Tuesday, priority bills received debate and discussion on the floor of the House. There was no time to waste as legislative leaders plowed through week two.

The Tax Foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index compares states’ tax systems. While there are many ways to show how much is collected in taxes by state governments, the Index is designed to show how well states structure their tax systems and provides a road map for improvement. This means a state can rank in the top 10 while still levying all the major taxes. Indiana and Utah, for example, levy all the major tax types, but do so with low rates on broad bases.

The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted the labor market in ways never seen before, resulting in local economic development organizations working with various partners to create innovative talent development programs in order to still compete for new projects and expansions.
