Girls Inc. Week 2020:
She Leads: Inspired and Engaged in Civic Life
It's Girls Inc. week! This year, we're focusing on civic engagement.
2020 will mark the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, a presidential election in the U.S. and the U.S. census. But many people face barriers to participating in civic life and many young people think their voices don't matter.
At Girls Inc., we believe government works best when it reflects the thoughts, opinions and values of the people - and that includes GIRLS.
While some girls might be too young to vote, girls aren’t too young to be affected by the decisions of policy makers or participate in civic life.

Girls Inc. Receives $40,000 Grant from the Philadelphia Foundation's Fund for Children
|
|
We've been awarded a grant to support our Leadership and Community Action program! While there are more women in leadership positions than ever before, a pervasive gender gap still exists in top leadership, and an even larger gap persists for women of color. Together we can change that! Through the support of this grant, we will teach girls to use their voices, increase their awareness of community resources and envision themselves as tomorrow's leaders.
The Philadelphia Foundation has been improving the Greater Philadelphia area for more than a century by investing in organizations that foster economic, civic and social vitality. Read more about the program and the Philadelphia Foundation

"It's Time to End Nonprofits' Hand-to-Mouth Way of Life"
Girls Inc. President and CEO, Stephanie J. Hull, co-authored an op-ed for
The Chronicle of Philanthropy
discussing the limitations imposed by grant makers and how these restrictions keep nonprofits from developing robust capital reserves. In order to support good management and sustainability, especially in light of the current economic crisis, nonprofits need a more strategic approach to grant funding. The most vulnerable among us depend on the vital work of nonprofits, therefore the financial resiliency of these organizations should be of paramount concern to us all. Read the full article
