The Florida House of Representatives' second Interim Committee Week brought forward informative presentations and workshops on issues that will be considered during the upcoming 2015 Legislative Session. As you prepare to advocate on behalf of issues you believe in, I would encourage you to watch and read the background material and information that has been vetted over the last two interim committee weeks. You can watch the Committee and the Subcommittee presentations by using the "Committees" tab located at the top of www.myfloridahouse.gov, or by going directly to the Committees Webpage. Once you have accessed the Committee or Subcommittee page you have an interest in, please feel free to download or print a hard copy of the presentation materials. These documents can be found under "Committee Documents." Additionally, an archived video of each Committee or Subcommittee can be found under "Video Archives" on the webpage of the Committee or Subcommittee.
As both a Chairman and a Vice Chairman, I find that having a link to the Florida Statutes, The Laws of Florida, The Florida State Constitution and the House Rules all make for a great legislative foundation. I encourage you to view the links below and utilize the bill tracking system. Additionally, I use the "Just for Students" links to educate my son when he visits me in Tallahassee.
In closing, I had the pleasure of being the first member to pass legislation out of a committee of reference for the 2015 Session. I appreciate the support and dialog regarding HB 4005 - Licenses to Carry Concealed Weapons or Firearms that I have had with many of you. I know the subject is multifaceted and I appreciate the membership of the Criminal Justice Subcommittee engaging in a thorough debate of the issue.
As always, I look forward to hearing from you on issues that are important to you. I hope the links enclosed will be of service to you as we begin Interim Committee Weeks together.

The Criminal Justice Subcommittee Passes HB 4005

HB 4005 - Licenses to Carry Concealed Weapons or Firearms, gives individuals, twenty-one and older, who have passed the required background check, passed the firearms safety and training courses and have submitted to fingerprinting giving them the right to have a concealed carry permit the right to carry on college and university campuses.
As a father and a military veteran, I believe that keeping campuses gun-free zones is a factor in the needless loss of life and violence that has occurred across America. I hope you find the attached video from the Criminal Justice Subcommittee's hearing to be of help to you as the policy discussion continues. I believe you will find interest in my presentation, the public testimony and the Subcommittee's questions. In closing, I would like to thank you for joining me in starting a proactive discussion on school safety.
