Dear Colleagues and Friends,
This week, much of the activity in Tallahassee was focused around the January 3rd Inauguration Ceremony for Governor Ron DeSantis and the members of the Florida Cabinet. Sworn into office along with Governor DeSantis were Secretary of Agriculture Wilton Simpson, Attorney General Ashley Moody, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, and Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez. In his inaugural address, the Governor highlighted some of the accomplishments of his first term in office and discussed priorities for his second term, including education policy, tax relief, as well as continued funding for water quality issues and Everglades restoration. You can read a full transcript of the Governor’s inaugural address here.
Following the inaugural activities, the Legislature began their first round of committee meetings of the year on Wednesday, January 4th and Thursday, January 5th. While not every committee met this week, the committees that did, held introductory meetings. This allowed the committee members and staff to introduce themselves and provide an overview of the committee’s jurisdiction. No bills were discussed in committee this week.
The presiding officers in both chambers have made changes to their committee structures for 2022-2024. Below please find links to the new House and Senate committee structures.
