I will provide weekly updates during committee weeks to keep you informed about the key bills and committee meetings that may have an impact on your business interests in Florida.

Speaker Designation Ceremony Yesterday
Representative Daniel Perez (R-Miami) was designated as the incoming Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives during a ceremony in the Florida Capitol yesterday, September 18. He will serve as the Speaker from November 2024 through November 2026.
New House Committees,
Minor Tweaks for Senate Committees
House Speaker Paul Renner recently announced member committee assignments for the 2024 Legislative Session. The Speaker created two new Select committees. The first will focus on health innovation and the second will look at hurricane resilience and recovery. Senate President Kathleen Passidomo also released member committee assignments for next session opting to make minor adjustments to committee membership allowing Senators more time in-between committee meetings.
House Committee Meetings Scheduled for Today
Three House subcommittees are scheduled to meet today, September 19, to receive presentations on various topics. The House Children, Families and Seniors Subcommittee will meet for a presentation on the implementation of HB 7065 (2022) related to child welfare. The House Water Quality, Supply & Treatment Subcommittee will hear from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection on wetlands and the St. Johns River Water Management District on mitigation banking. Finally, the House Transportation & Modals Subcommittee will hear a presentation from the Florida Transportation Committee.
Interim Committee Weeks Continue Next Month
The Senate is scheduled to return to Tallahassee for their first set of committee meetings the week of October 9. Both chambers are expected to return to the Capitol the week of October 16.
