With the 2024 Legislative Session fast approaching, the third committee week will commence today, October 16. I will provide weekly updates during committee weeks to keep you informed about the key bills and committee meetings that may have an impact on your business interests in Florida.

Senate President Designation Ceremony Tomorrow


Senator Ben Albritton (R-Bartow) will be designated as the incoming Senate President of the Florida Senate during a ceremony in the Florida Capitol today. He will serve as President for the 2024 – 2026 term.


Senate Committee Meetings Scheduled for This Week


Several Senate committees are scheduled to meet this week. Key Senate committee meetings this week include: 

  • The Senate Health Policy Committee will receive an update on HB 389 (2020) regarding collective pharmacy practice and receive an update from the Department of Health on the state’s Medical Marijuana program.
  • The Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee will receive a presentation on Broadband from the Department of Commerce.
  • The Appropriations Committee on Health and Human Services will receive an update on the transition of child protective investigations from seven county sheriff offices to the Department of Children and Families. They will also receive information technology updates from the Agency for Health Care Administration, the Department of Children and Families and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities.
  • The Senate Agriculture Committee will receive an update on federal assistance for citrus growers.


House Committee meetings Scheduled for This Week


Several House committees have scheduled meetings this week. Key House committee meetings this week include:

  • The House Insurance and Banking Subcommittee will receive a presentation on the property insurance market by Insurance Commissioner Michael Yaworsky.
  • The newly formed Select Committee on Health Innovation will meet this week to receive a briefing from the Agency for Health Care Administration regarding legislation implementation of several bills from previous sessions as well as an update on the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care procurement process.
  • The Select Committee on Hurricane Resiliency and Recovery, also newly formed for this session, will meet for the first time to receive a presentation from the Division of Emergency Management. A panel discussion by local governments impacted by Hurricanes Ian and Nicole is also on the committee’s agenda.


Interim Committee Weeks Continue Next Month

Both chambers are expected to return to the Capitol the week of November 6 for further committee meetings.
