GERALDINE'S DILEMMA
- GAIN CONFIDENCE WITH KNOWLEDGE -
.
At my spring Secret Design Party, Geraldine came with the interior design dilemma of 'how do you choose items for a room without it being a big mistake?'.

Geraldine was a busy working mum of three and didn't want to waste her time and energy, or her hard earned money, buying the wrong things for her home. She was exhausted  spending hours looking for things and then disappointed taking them back because they weren't right for the room.

She wanted to know how to create an organised living and dining room for her family that was youthful and bright, whilst also incorporating bright colours. She wanted her family space to be relaxing, homely and stylish.

At the Secret Design Party we discuss how to create a cohesive space so that it's practical and stylish. Both elements are equally important in any room design because one can counteract the other. For example: have you ever been in a lovely room that has beautiful décor but there's a pile of letters or paperwork strewn across the table? You start to ignore the style of the room as it's being overtaken by clutter. Or maybe you've been in a room that's organised and practical, to the point where it's lost all personality, character and style. The room is clean and tidy but you don't feel comfortable.

The key is to bring in the senses when you create any room design - sight, sound, touch, taste and smell - so that it evokes feelings and is not just stuff in a room. For example: You don't just want any chair, you want a chair that fits the space and looks lovely, but you're also looking for one that's pleasurable to touch and comfortable to sit on. It then becomes your favourite chair so that it nurtures and supports you; it connects with your emotions.

By connecting emotions into your design, you'll be able to create a room that not only looks amazing but also feels absolutely wonderful. In this way you'll stop buying things and start buying experiences, so the items you bring into your home will have meaning and value, which in turn will help you to choose the right item without making a huge mistake.

The knowledge that Geraldine gained from the Secret Design Party has given her the confidence to make better and even bolder choices.  Here's what Geraldine had to say:
