It’s not too late to find summer or fall interns! Several programs are still available for employers to gain extra help.

NYC CTE Industry Scholars program is looking for industry-specific employers to host high school summer interns. These interns work 25 hours a week, are high achieving students, provided ongoing training, and are at no cost to the employer.

Ladders for Leaders program recruits top high school and college students for various internships across NYC. These interns are given ongoing career training and go through a selective recruitment process. There is a fee for employers, but various incentives such as a tax write-off, placement and training services, and access to top candidates.

Summer Youth Employment program works with students age 14-24. They are selected via lottery and work 20-25 hours a week from July to August. They receive training prior to starting their job and there is no cost to employers.

LifeSci NYC is looking for organizations to host college and grad-level students for their science and management tracks. Employers are expected to pay for the intern, unless they are a s mall business, nonprofit, or unfunded startups.

Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!)
Investor Panel Presentations
Last Thursday, March 22 student entrepreneurs from various Staten Island high schools took the stage at Staten Island Technical High School Auditorium. Each student/ business owner had five minutes to pitch their business plans to prominent local members of the business community, during the program’s annual YEA! Investor Panel event (think Shark Tank meets The Apprentice meets American Idol). Based on the appeal and merit of the students’ plans and presentations, the panel of local business leaders determined the amount of funds (up to $4,000) to allocate to each business and who would move on to the semi finals.
This year's 2018 Saunders Scholar is Merrick Eng, a senior of Staten Island Technical High School. He is the CEO of MasterMerrick and his product is the Eco Piper, a sustainable, recyclable, no mess piping bag. He will initially market to the home baker but hopes to expand for commercial use. His mentor was Chamber member, Maria Carrozza, Cookie Jar. Merrick was awarded $1150 in start up funds and will travel to Rochester NY for the semi finals on May 4th.
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), is an annual extracurricular program sponsored by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Thank you to all of our YEA! Sponsors and Supporters!

The Tricky Truth of Inheritance in the 21st Century

Inheritances are a complicated thing. Not only are there often strings attached in the eyes of the government, unexpected taxes, and complicated bequeathments, but there are also potential conflicts within families. And not to mention the fact that the potential windfall was the result of a relative's death. Inheritances are very complicated.
