Hello to the growing IBI community -

On behalf of the IBI Board of Directors, I hope everyone is enjoying a lovely summer, unless you’re in the Southern half of the globe, and in that case, you are having a wonderful winter or rainy season.

For those of us in summer, that time of heat and growing seasons, multiple extreme heat waves remind us of the existential challenges our home planet is facing. For many of us, it can be a reminder of why we labor, promote, advocate for, and use, biochar. Perhaps one silver lining of sharply rising petroleum-based fertilizer prices makes clear is the inherent un-sustainability of them, and we hope, in turn, opens up opportunities for biochar, an inherently circular soil amendment and, and when combined with locally available nutrients, a more affordable, more sustainable slow-release fertilizer.

Did you know that members have access to all webinar recordings, including recent webinars focusing on biochar in soilless agriculture, abandoned oil and gas wells, forestry, and many other end uses.

This survey is being conducted by the US Biochar Initiative in collaboration with the Global Development Incubator with the goal of better understanding the challenges and opportunities to scaling the biochar industry in North America.

The Politecnico di Torina is offering two new PhD positions at Bioeconomy, Biofuel, Biochar group:

The US Department of Agriculture announced the Bioproduct Pilot Program funding to support the development of biobased products that have lower carbon footprints and increase the use of renewable agricultural materials, creating new revenue streams for farmers. Learn more.

WaysTUP! is an EU-funded project that aims to demonstrate the establishment of new value chains for urban biowaste utilisation to produce higher value purpose products (i.e. biobased products, including food and feed ingredients), through a multi-stakeholder approach in line with circular economy.
