International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th is a time to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution. This day, which is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, was designated by the United Nations in 2005.
There are multiple organizations in North Carolina offering ways to commemorate this day, and you are invited to participate. By honoring survivors, remembering the victims, and focusing on education about the Holocaust, we can combat antisemitism, racism, and intolerance today.
There are many resources available on the NC Council on the Holocaust website for teachers to use in the classroom or attend trainings to learn best practices when teaching about the Holocaust. Just click below to access resources and sign up for professional development today!
