The Post Adoption Connection Center provides webinars every other month to give additional guidance and education to adoptive families. These webinars are recorded and can be accessed by going to Nightlight's YouTube Channel at the link below, clicking on "Playlists", and then choosing the Post Adoption Connection Center playlist. There are two series of videos currently that address various "Dealing with Difficult Behaviors" and answering the question "Is this Adoption or Normal?" when understanding our child's behavior.

Albania

Exciting things are happening in Albania! We have two families in country who will bring their daughters home at the end of their trips! We have one family that received I800A immigration approval and applied for I800 approval. Two families are working on dossiers, and one family is finishing up their home study for a second Albania adoption.

We have three children from Albania who are waiting for their forever families! Please check out Hadley, Lawrence, and Josiah on Adoption Bridge at www.adoptionbridge.org. For more information, contact Lynn at Lynn@nightlight.org

Armenia

The Nightlight family mentioned in last month's newsletter has accepted the referral of a lovely little boy and are planning their trip to Armenia now to meet him. In the Armenia program, you can expect to take two trips (one about 3-4 weeks, and a second about 1 week) to Yerevan to meet your child, get to know them, and process your adoption through the courts. Armenia is a Hague adoption country, so you will follow the i800 process through USCIS. If you and your family are looking to adopt a child with special needs, you can reach out to abigail@nightlight.org for more information about the Armenia program.

Bulgaria

We did not receive any referrals for the month of March, but we did have a few families submit applications for waiting children for the month of March! We are so excited to be growing our waiting child program for the children that are soon to be aging out of the process. We have 7 families approaching to be registered with the Ministry of Justice. The Ministry of Justice expressed urgency and importance to have families registered in the traditional program as well. We have many inquiries for the program and we look forward to working with them on their adoption journey!

We have one family receive a court hearing date for May and have two more families finishing up court paperwork to receive a court hearing date as well. We are excited for these families to bring home their children in the upcoming months.

We want to encourage families in the program to reach out to us at any time if you have any questions, concerns or would like an update on your case in Bulgaria. We also have the capability to schedule video calls with our Bulgaria representatives to discuss your case in detail. Please feel free to reach out to our Bulgaria team, Karson Loscar and Ashley Settle at karson@nightlight.org and ashley.settle@nightlight.org

We want to continue to remind everyone that the waiting child process is exceptionally quicker than the traditional adoption process through Bulgaria. If you are interested in a waiting child, you could be matched within a couple of months (if you already have a dossier registered) and from being officially matched you could bring the child home 4-5 months later! We have many children that need their forever families that could be older children, younger children with special needs and sibling groups.

Please take a look at our Adoption Bridge website if you are interested https://adoptionbridge.org

Meet Zoe, Hayden & Elijah! I had the opportunity of a lifetime to meet these amazing siblings and spend time with them. We are hoping to find their forever family as soon as possible! They desire a loving family together with one another. The siblings are all clinically healthy and their bond with one another is undeniable.

Please reach out to Ashley Settle at ashley.settle@nightlight.org for more information about these siblings.

Burkina Faso

In the Burkina Faso program, we have two families who have accepted official referrals of children. The Burkina Faso program has been going through some changes lately which we hope will enable adoptive parents to receive official match of a child more quickly than before. The process after being matched is still expected to take about 12 months; however, we are also hopeful that we will see a reduction in the timeline for this process as well.

Adopting from Burkina Faso will test your faith and your patience. But it's worth it...especially when you get to see the little face of an orphan. The orphan you will make your own son or daughter. It's worth it when you have the opportunity to pray for this child and to become the intercessor that is so desperately needed. It's worth it when you feel God changing your perspective and your desires. And you notice that life is changing - not only for the orphan but for you. Adopting from Burkina Faso is worth it.

We have a list of children who are just waiting for a forever home. Contact Lisa at lisaw@nightlight.org to ask for more information.

Canada

We have two active families and three families hoping to start the process soon. One of our families is in the final stages of review with their home study and hope to soon submit their I800A so that they can adopt their grandchildren. Fortunately, although they began the process with one grandchild ready for placement, the younger sibling is now available and both will be adopted by the family. They are all very excited!

China

China Relative Adoption Program: We continue to have five active families in our China Relative Adoption Program. In March, one family submitted their packet to the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou for Article 5, one family submitted their dossier to the CCCWA, one family was awaiting I800A approval, and two families were working on their home studies.

At the end of March, Angela had the opportunity to travel to Beijing and meet in person with Alison, our Foreign Supervised Provider. This was a wonderful opportunity to review what we are learning about each province's requirements as we navigate this newer relative adoption program. Alison continues to liaison with provincial Civil Affairs offices as well as the CCCWA in Beijing, to move these cases along as quickly as possible. See photo below of Angela and Alison in Beijing.

Colombia

We had a great March in the Colombia program, and we are celebrating our first child home this year! We have several other families getting closer to that point every day. We currently have 2 families who have I-800 approval that are awaiting official travel dates. We have 3 families who have filed their I-800s and are waiting for their approvals. We have 3 families with dossiers submitted who are waiting on their official match. We have 16 families who are working on their home study and dossier currently.

Additionally, we are really trying to recruit families for hosting still. Many children are waiting to be matched with a family, and we would love to help you host and adopt a child. We would need families willing to move quickly on their paperwork, but we could help you get this done!

This is one sibling group who is available for hosting this year!

Mia (16 yrs old), Aiden (14 yrs old), and Finn (14 yrs old) are a bright and loving sibling trio in need of a forever adoptive family. Mia enjoys drawing and creating art and has a passion for modeling, playing the clarinet, and dancing. Fourteen-year-old twins Aiden and Finn are a dynamic duo. Aiden is creative and athletic, with a passion for soccer and music. Finn is curious and thoughtful, sharing Aiden’s love of soccer and an interest in research and biology.

Dominican Republic

We currently have two families in the DR program - one in home study and one in orientation - and room for your family as well! If you are interested in adopting a child from 3-14 years of age (most younger children will have special needs) and can accommodate a long in-country stay, then reach out to rachel.roberts@nightlight.org to learn more!

Waiting Child Spotlight:

Jenny is a 6-year-old girl with probable mucopolysaccharidosis, probable Coffi-Siri syndrome, significant umbilical hernia, third-degree malnutrition, seizures, and developmental delays. Families can learn more about Jenny and other waiting children after presenting their dossier to the Dominican Central Authority.

Interesting fact about the Dominican Republic:

Despite its size, the Dominican Republic has deserts, rainforests, beaches, and mountains—including Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean.

Ecuador

Ecuador has waiting children available for adoption, ages 4 and up. Most younger children have significant special needs. Many sibling groups are available as well. Reach out to rachel.roberts@nightlight.org to learn more about available children and the Ecuador adoption process!

Waiting Child Spotlight:

Claire (13), Mac (11), and Evan (7) are a healthy sibling group of 3. Families can learn more about this sibling group and other waiting children after presenting their dossiers to the Ecuadorian Central Authority.

Interesting fact about Ecuador:

Ecuador officially recognizes 14 Indigenous nationalities. While Spanish is the main language, Indigenous languages such as Kichwa and Shuar are still widely spoken and culturally significant.

Georgia

You are invited! “mots’veuli khart!”

Georgia is a very different program in that a family must submit a dossier to the Social Service Agency for approval and only then will a child be proposed to you. Once the child has been accepted by the family, there is a tremendous amount of information provided for your ongoing review. This program could take about a year from the point of dossier submission and acceptance of a first proposed child. The travel is a single trip of 21-23 days. All children will have special needs which may include Down Syndrome, spina bifida, intellectual delays, as a few examples. Meanwhile, let me tell you a little about this beautiful country with the most beautiful children in the world (Yes, I am biased as a mom to two born and adopted from Georgia!)

Lets go!

Traveling around Georgia in the spring season is one of my favorite experiences, mainly for the wildflowers. To be honest, I love traveling about in all of Georgia in every season for so many reasons. However, one thing that sets apart Georgia’s apart from many other countries is being known as the Caucasus Biodiversity Hotspot. Did you know that Georgia has about 6,400 plant species, and so many burst into color from early spring through summer?

By late March and early April, you can expect to see magnificent cherry blossoms and magnolias blooming in cities like Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Mtskheta, and Batumi. As temperatures rise in April and May, you can expect to see spectacular fields of poppies, chamomile, orchids, rhododendrons, irises, and peonies begin to appear. These may be the most fragrant flowers and are certainly worthy of not only photos, but time spent just absorbing the beauty with all of your senses! You’ll see lavender near Sighnaghi and sunflowers in the fields across Kakheti. By June and July, the alpine regions are covered in flower-filled meadows and wild thyme used for herbal tea.

In my personal travels and time spent in Georgia (not ever enough time!) I have readily found wildflowers almost everywhere in Georgia, but some places really stand out for their beauty and highly unique species. If you were to choose a time to travel to Georgia and had a particular interest in wildflowers, I hope you will find the following information helpful to choose specific months which may match your interest in wildflowers.

In March and April, I head to Udabno, where cherry, plum, and peach blossoms brighten the desert like landscape, more specifically around the David Gareja monasteries. It’s a striking contrast of soft pinks against dry, earthy tones.

By April and May, I like visiting Vashlovani National Park. Its rugged terrain comes alive with wild pistachio trees and rare plants. Around the same time, Bakuriani’s fields and nearby lakes are filled with wild orchids. Can youjust imagine – wild orchids! It is really something to see!

On the Black Sea coast, Poti and Kolkheti National Park offer buttercups and water lilies in spring. In May, I would stop by Marneuli to see vivid red poppies growing near the railway lines. Always picturesque and fun to set aside to make some great portraits in the flower field areas.

Later in May, Algeti National Park is my go-to for chamomile fields and easy hiking trails. (easy enough for me at least, as a non-hiker!) Around late May and June, I’d highly recommend Shkmeri, a sleepy little mountain village that turns into a wildflower haven once the snow melts.

By late June and July, I would head into the mountains. Upper Svaneti’s meadows are full of colorful blooms, while Kazbegi and the nearby valleys are packed with diverse wildflowers. Tusheti is especially special in summer, with rhododendrons and alpine flowers stretching across the landscape, along with wild thyme used for tea. I would recommend an overnight stay to enjoy the sunrise and set over the landscape.

Ghana

We have incredibly had 3 families invited to Ghana within the next month to bring their children home. While visa processing times in Accra remain uncertain, out long standing and much appreciated relationship with the Consulate in Accra leaves us hopeful for quick turnarounds for these families. It has also been a joy to see a beautiful Nightlight family meet the daughter and son that they have waited so long for. If you are interested in adopting an orphan or relative from Ghana, please reach out to abigail@nightlight.org for more information. We are still looking for families with a heart to adopt a child with special needs from Ghana. If this is you, I look forward to hearing from you and sharing more information.

Haiti

We did not receive any referrals for the month of March. However, we have had cases continue to proceed with 2 cases entering the court process, 3 cases completing legalization and several cases awaiting for passports at Haitian Immigration.

We learned of a fraudulent case that occurred at Haitian Immigration causing the office to close down temporarily. The office is up and running again, with the hope that we will be able to receive 10 of our families passports for their children soon.

We have a better estimated timeline for passport and visa issuance since the travel ban was implemented. We had one family receive their children's passports in 12 business days and visas issued in 6 business days. We are hopeful for a quicker issuance timeline, but for now this is what we can estimate for upcoming families nearing the end of the process.

As the program continues to move forward, we are opening the program up to families wanting to adopt from Haiti. We ask that families be open to 7 years and older and to understand the risks of adopting from Haiti. With the travel ban in place, we are still welcoming applications to the program. Please let me know if you have any questions and I would be happy to schedule a call with you. We are also continuing to still accept relative cases that are being considered case by case. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me, Karson Loscar, at karson@nightlight.org if you have any questions or would like an update on your case.

Honduras

Government changeover is still underway in Honduras, but thus far the changes we have seen in SENAF have been very hopeful ones! Praying for more positive changes to be on their way.

We currently have 23 families in the Honduras program. 1 family is in the travel phase, 5 families are in court, 1 family recently matched, 8 families waiting to be matched, 6 families in home study and dossier, and 2 families on hold.

Hong Kong

Things continue to move smoothly in our Hong Kong program. Currently, we have 1 family preparing to travel this week. We have 2 families who have received their official match and are awaiting their high court orders. We have 1 family who has submitted their dossier and is awaiting an official match. We have 3 families who are still waiting for a match. We have 2 families working on their home study and dossier processes.

Samuel is a gentle and sincere child whose warm smile immediately draws people in. He has language delays, but his ability to observe, explore, and connect with the world around him speaks volumes about who he is.

At school, Samuel is described as happy, highly observant, curious, and full of exploratory spirit. He loves creating and discovering new things, often engaging deeply with activities that spark his imagination. His teachers note his thoughtful nature and positive presence in the classroom.

Samuel has faced more challenges at home in the past, particularly with adapting to family routines. Encouragingly, this has improved since he entered a new placement, showing his capacity to grow and adjust when provided with the right support and structure. He thrives in environments that are predictable and well-structured, where expectations are clear and consistent.

He strongly seeks companionship and reassurance from adults and does best when he knows a trusted caregiver is nearby. Samuel enjoys one-on-one interactions and forms positive relationships with peers. Despite his communication challenges, he has never been aggressive or antagonistic.

In his free time, Samuel enjoys playing Monopoly and shows great sportsmanship, accepting losses with grace. He also loves visiting the park, where he can relax, explore, and enjoy the simple joys of being a child.

Samuel needs a family who can offer unconditional acceptance, a gentle approach, and sustained patience, along with clear guidance and loving boundaries. With the right support, Samuel has the potential to continue blossoming emotionally and socially.

Samuel is ready for a family who will see his heart, celebrate his progress, and provide the steady love and understanding he deserves.

We currently have 21 families in the Jamaica program. We have 1 family preparing to complete the program orientation, 1 working on their home study, 2 families working on completing their Jamaica Adoption Application with the Jamaica Central Authority, 1 is waiting to receive a Guardianship License from Jamaica, 5 families are working through their referral phase, 7 families are waiting on I-600 approval, and 4 families are home with their children and working on finalizing the adoption in the U.S.

Congratulations to the G family on the finalization of their adoption. The G family arrived home and finalized their adoption in less than 6 months. We are so excited for them as they enter this precious new season.

Liberia

Liberia is up and running. We have one family in the court process and should be returning home soon. We have 2 families who are about to submit their dossier and start the court process. Several more who are in the early stages. We have some child up on Adoption Bridge who are in need of homes. More will be posted soon. Please stay tuned!

FRANKIE

Frankie, age 5, is a gentle, bright little boy whose life began with loss—but also with quiet resilience. He has never known his father, and while his devoted mother has given him all her love, she bravely recognizes that he deserves more than she can provide alone.

Healthy, observant, and full of potential, Frankie takes in the world with a calm and thoughtful spirit. His mother’s decision to seek adoption is an act of profound love—choosing a future of opportunity and stability for her son.

Frankie is waiting for a family to give him what every child deserves: security, guidance, and unconditional love. In return, he will bring a tender heart, strength, and a deep capacity to bond.

To adopt Frankie is to give him his first true sense of belonging—and the future his mother dreams of for him.

To learn more about Frankie, reach out to Randy at randy@nightlight.org or visit adoptionbridge.org

Malawi

We have a family in Malawi right now. They have completed the adoption of their 2 year old son and are waiting to get his passport and visa so that he can come home.

There are two issues in adopting from Malawi.

1. The Central Adoption Authority who issues the official matches moves very slowly.

2. After the adoption is finalized, it can take weeks to obtain the new birth certificate and passport.

Families interested in adopting from Malawi must be able and willing to live in Malawi for 8-12 weeks to complete the adoption.

Nightlight Christian Adoptions is aware of 2 little boys who need homes. Families who wish to adopt from Malawi must be open to adopting a child who is HIV positive or has other special needs such as developmental delays, cerebral palsy, arm or leg differences, malnutrition, abandonment, etc.

Please contact Lisa at lisaw@nightlight.org if you are able to stay in Malawi for 8-12 weeks and wish to adopt one of the little boys (age 2 and age 3). You can also wait in the program for an official match.

Mexico

We continue to see positive progress in our Mexico cases this month. There are currently 33 families in the Mexico program. 7 of these families are in the court/travel phase, 5 families waiting to be matched, 15 families in home study and dossier, 5 families in application and orientation, and 1 family on hold.

We also want to express a huge congratulations to our lovely program coordinator Camila for welcoming her first child in March!

Morocco

A Nightlight family who has recently completed the Kafala process in El Jadida has miraculously been invited to the embassy in Casablanca for their visa interview after only 5 weeks. While this is still a relatively new partnership, this timeline in Morocco makes us very hopeful for our waiting families and the potential that they may bring their children home even sooner. Morocco is a beautiful northern African country that welcomes practicing Sunni Muslim families to adopt physically healthy infants from their well-maintained orphanages. Our team has long standing relationships with our partners there and we're constantly searching out new opportunities for our waiting families. If this program is of interest to you, please reach out to abigail@nightlight.org.

Nigeria

In the Nigeria program, we have many families in various stages of the adoption process: there are three families working on home studies, two working on dossiers, three families who are matched, and eight families waiting for I600 approval. Two families have traveled for their first trip and finalized their adoptions in Nigeria. They have returned and filed their I600 applications. Two families received I600 approval and are preparing to travel at the end of April & beginning of May to bring their children home!

We are so excited that we have so many children who have been matched with families! However, we do still have many beautiful children in Nigeria who are waiting for their forever homes! On Adoption Bridge, please check out Iris, Kiki, Amara & Asha, and Sawyer!

Beautiful Iris

New Waiting child Kiki

Amara and Asha

Wonderful Sawyer

Nigeria Out of order case:

This month we have received two I-600 approvals from USCIS for one family who adopted from Nigeria. They submitted their I-600s on July 5, 2024, and received approvals on March 3, 2026. This family is currently in Nigeria for their visa appointments.

Another family received a Notice of Intent to Deny. This family filed their I-600 in May 2024. They are responding to this Notice by using an immigration attorney who is knowledgeable about intercountry adoptions.

The first family waited 20 months for a response. The second family waited 22 months for a response.

Current USCIS case processing time for I-600 states: 80% of cases are processed within 27.5 months.

Pakistan

We have a family Pakistan who have received a referral! We are so excited for this family to continue making progress through their adoption process. Two families are also working to complete their dossier now that their I-600A has been received! We are so thrilled for the progress these families are making in their adoption.

The Pakistan program has specific eligibility requirements of Pakistani heritage and being practicing Muslims. The children from infancy and up are eligible for Guardianship and subsequent adoption from Pakistan referred to families through government-run orphanages. Older children and sibling groups are very uncommon in this program. If you would like more information about the Pakistan program, please contact Monique Swain at monique@nightlight.org to inquire about our Pakistan program.

Philippines

We are excited to have welcomed more families into our program pursuing relative adoptions from the Philippines! We have a few families waiting on the results of child placing committee meetings in order to receive placement proposal paperwork. We have a few families that have been about to file their last form of immigration paperwork in order to prepare for travel documents for homecoming.

Nightlight has a monthly meeting with NACC in the Philippines. Please reach out to Karson or Yesenia at karson@nightlight.org or yesenia@nightlight.org, whenever you have any questions or are requesting an update on your case.

We also receive files of children that NACC sends to Nightlight in search of a family for specific children. We are presenting these to families and hopeful to receive some interest. Each month Nightlight receives updated waiting children lists from the National Authority for Child Care (NACC), which is the Central Adoption Authority in Philippines. Children available are: single medically healthy above age 7, sibling groups and children of all ages with various special needs. If you consider adopting an older child or a child with some special needs, Philippines program can be a good fit. Please visit our Philippines page https://nightlight.org/philippines-adoption-program/ or email Karson Loscar at karson@nightlight.org

Portugal

This month we would like to share about Laura from Portugal, in hopes of finding her a family Please reach out to Viktoriia@Nightlight.org for more information:

Laura is a bright, sensitive, and resilient 14-year-old girl with a warm smile and a kind heart. She’s creative and independent, making and selling her own bracelets to save for things she wants, and she enjoys Muay Thai, which helps her feel confident and strong. At school, Laura is motivated and improving steadily, especially proud of her success in Mathematics. Though a bit shy at first, she quickly builds close, caring relationships and is known for her empathy and gentle nature. After overcoming many challenges in her early life, Laura is now ready and eager to join a loving family who can offer her stability, affection, and encouragement. She dreams of a home with a mother and father, where she can feel safe, laugh freely, and rediscover the joy of simply being a child.

Samoa

Update: Nightlight Christian Adoptions will now be completing only relative adoption cases from Samoa. We are currently accepting new applications from families pursuing relative adoptions from this country.

We currently have 4 families in our Samoa program.

We wish them all the best as they proceed with their adoption process!

Taiwan

Our Taiwan program is going very well. Nightlight was able to meet with our partners in Taiwan and learn about how well they prepare kiddos for meeting their forever family! Our partner agency, Chung Yi, posts pictures of the child with their family, so they can envision themselves in their new home.

We did not have any children come home this month, but we did have two families approved for guardianship! We have 1 family in the court process and we have 1 family who is having calls with their child while Chung Yi prepares to submit their documents to court. We have 1 family who is awaiting guardian approval, and we have 2 families currently waiting for a referral. Lastly, we have 1 family who is working through the home study and dossier process.

We are excited to see these cases continuing to move and all of the families who have been matched in this program. We are eager to have some new families come into the program so we can see more children matched with families!

We also wanted to highlight Wyatt. He is wating for his foever home!

Wyatt is a remarkable nine-year-old with a bright mind and a heart full of potential. A thoughtful and determined fourth grader, he approaches the world with curiosity and care. Developmentally on track in all areas—fine motor, gross motor, speech, and cognition—Wyatt’s love of learning shines every day, especially when it comes to science. He is fascinated by how things work and isn’t afraid to ask questions or dig deeper to understand the world around him.

Wyatt would flourish in a patient, nurturing family who appreciates his thoughtful nature and provides steady encouragement. With the right support, he has so much potential—and so much heart to share.

Trinidad and Tobago

Our Trinidad and Tobago program has wonderful progress underway. This country is only open kinship adoptions. Should you have a relative that you would like to adopt from our Trinidad and Tobago program, please contact Monique Swain at monique@nightlight.org for more information on our program.

We currently have families completing their home study, collecting their dossier documents, and an approved and waiting family on the way to completing their I-600. We are excited for these families working through their adoption process.

Fun Fact about Trinidad and Tobago: The one of the largest brain corals in the world is located near Tobago, and it is composed of individual coral organisms!

Uganda

We have one family who is currently in Uganda for an official meeting with the Alternative Care Panel. We have 2 families waiting for I-600 approval and visas for their children. We have 4 families who are working on their home studies. We have several families who have been inquiring.

We have waiting children in Uganda; however, these children do have more severe special needs. Typically the families who are adopting from Uganda are living in Uganda. Uganda requires adoptive parents to foster their child in Uganda for 12 months. We tell families to prepare for living at least 2 years in Uganda.

There are three beautiful little girls who are available for adoption in Uganda. See their photos below. All three girls have more moderate to severe special needs. The girls are currently residents in an exceptional children's home who trains caregivers to care for the needs of each child. One child has a line over her eyes in the photo below. I do not have a photo of this child that is not redacted.

United Kingdom

We are thrilled for our family that completed their referral review and soon after began the required bonding period with their nephew. He was so excited to finally join his family! They too were very excited and glad to finally be at this stage in the process. They are heading towards the finish line!

United Kingdom

**USCIS Reminders - An updated home study is required to be submitted to Immigration for any change in family circumstance such as; a child in the home turning 18, a new address, birth of a child etc. Even if you have already filed form I600 or I800 your duty of candor requires you to file a home study update to reflect these change. If one is not submitted this could cause you major delays in travel.
