Summer Courses

It is almost summer break for many students and there are a large number of you headed home for your break. If you are wondering if you qualify for a break, meaning you are not required to register for classes in the summer, almost all students do except the following:
  • Students in their final semester, graduating in August 2018
  • Students who started their ESL studies in the 2nd module or mid-March
  • Students who have a pending reinstatement application with USCIS
Summer Travel Signatures

Traveling Outside the U.S. this Summer? Plan Ahead!
International students planning to travel outside the United States over the summer need to obtain a travel signature prior to leaving the country. We invite you to plan ahead in requesting a travel signature.

Ensure you have the correct travel documents and approvals with you.
Please remember to travel with the following documents:
  • Valid passport
  • Valid visa
  • I-20/DS-2019 with a valid travel signature (see following)
  • EAD card, job offer letter, and pay stubs (if you are participating in OPT or STEM OPT - pay stubs are optional)
You can obtain a travel signature by dropping off your most recent I-20/DS-2019 to the reception desk at the Office of Global Education
during normal business hours. Your I-20 will be ready for pick up the following business day with an updated travel signature on page 2 for I-20s or page 1 for DS-2019s. The travel signatures are valid for 1 year (unless you are on OPT or STEM OPT).

Because of required processing time, we recommend that you plan well in advance to obtain your travel signature.

The travel signatures are valid for 1 year (unless you are on OPT or STEM OPT).
Summer Dining Hours and Locations

If you plan to remain on campus throughout the summer, you should be aware that Kent State Dining Services will have reduced hours at many of their dining locations and a few locations will be closed over the summer.

For a complete list of available times and location closings, visit Dining Services' Dining Hours webpage. The page currently lists the hours for spring semester. Summer hours will be posting following the end of spring semester, so check back in a week or two.

May 4 Commemoration
Join the Kent State Community During the 48th Annual May 4 Commemoration and Landmark Dedication

A portion of Kent State University's Kent Campus has taken its place alongside the nation's most significant historic locations, joining such sites as the Grand Canyon National Park, Pearl Harbor and the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. Those 17 acres represent the location of the historic events of May 4, 1970, where protesting students, observers and soldiers gathered on that fateful day when the Ohio National Guard shot and killed four students and wounded nine others.

As part of the 48th annual May 4 Commemoration, Kent State will formally recognize and celebrate this National Historic Landmark designation during a special dedication ceremony at the Honors College Plaza on Friday, May 4, at 3:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to register online. In the event of inclement weather, the dedication ceremony will take place at the Kent Student Center Kiva.
Donation Drop Offs

Moving off campus or away from Kent for the summer?
Before you throw items in the trash, consider donating them to a family in need. Each year, students donate nearly 100,000 pounds of non-perishable food, clothes, rugs, furniture and other items to Portage County Family and Community Services.

Items can be donated to Throw and Go containers in each residence hall. International students who live off campus can donate items at the Office of Global Education in Van Campen Hall
