Welcome to the Summer Edition of International Student News

Just because it's summer doesn't mean that things stop happening at Kent State University. Plenty of happenings, classes and events will be taking place in the coming weeks between now and the start of classes this fall. And we want to keep you advised of all of them.

That's why we will be publishing a special series of our International Student News (ISN) every other week during the summer so you can keep up-to-date with everything that is happening on and around the Kent campus no matter where you are spending your days this summer. The following is our publication schedule for the summer edition of ISN:
  • Wednesday, May 30
  • Wednesday, June 13
  • Wednesday, June 27
  • Wednesday, July  11
  • Wednesday, July 25

Summer Dining Hours and Locations

If you plan to be on campus throughout the summer, you should be aware that Kent State Dining Services will have reduced hours at many of their dining locations and a few locations will be closed over the summer.

For a complete list of available times and location closings, visit Dining Services' Dining Hours webpage.

New Phone-In Advising Service

As an extra convenience to our international students, the staff of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) recently implemented a Phone-In Advising service. Please see the chart below to determine the available days and times when you can call into the Office to talk to an ISSS advisor by phone. Depending on the nature of your call, your advisor can also schedule a follow-up in-person appointment.

International Graduates Celebrated During Reception

Hundreds of graduating international students were recognized for their upcoming achievement in front of their friends and family during a special reception at the Student Center Ballroom on May 10. The celebration included plenty of food and photos. Attendees posed for photos with special guest, Flash, or took advantage of the on-hand photo booth to obtain a special keepsake photo to commemorate their upcoming graduation.

Spring 2018 International Graduates Students who registered in advance were also presented with a graduation stole emblazoned with the name of their home country which they could proudly wear at graduation. During the festivities, two international graduates, Yang Gao and Ahmed Al-Abri, were presented with the prestigious International Community Impact Award for their exceptional involvement in the Kent State community during their enrollment at Kent State.

During a short presentation, Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations, Lori Randorf, provided the evening's keynote address, in which she further congratulated the students and encouraged them to stay connected to Kent State as they embark upon their future lives and careers.
