Waiver requests will be granted if the student provides proof that they have an active health insurance policy that meets the university's coverage requirements.

Any international student may request a waiver of this fee if:
  1. The student provides proof of full sponsorship by a government agency including health insurance, or
  2. The student provides proof of health insurance provided by a United States employer

International Graduate Assistants may enroll for coverage by using this website link.
International Student Activity Fee Fund Request
Searching for funding to plan the next great campus event? All International Student organizations are eligible to apply for funding through the International Student Activity Fee Fund Request. Grants up to $1,000 are available for events that: Promote international understanding or enhance knowledge of an international culture; facilitate interaction between two or more cultures; or enhance participation in university-wide events, such as International Education Week.
On-Campus Employment
Many of you have found on-campus employment and we are excited you have! We wanted to pass on a few reminders to help you maintain your status.
  1. You are not permitted to work more than 20 hours per week while class is in session.
  2. During the breaks (summer, fall, winter, and spring), KSU policy allows you to work up to 28 hours.
  3. These hours are not per job, but total. If you have multiple jobs, the combined totals are not allowed to surpass 20 or 28 hours, depending on the time of year.
  4. Lastly, for students on a J-1 visa, you need to discuss any and all on-campus employment with ISSS before starting so that we can update your DS-2019.
Don't work too hard, but have a bit of fun and stay in status!

International Student Showcase: Meet Abdullah Al-bahlouli

Abdullah Al-bahlouli is an international student from Muscat, Oman, studying accounting and economics. Originally set on studying in California, Abdullah and a good friend did extensive research on colleges and universities as part of their college searches. After learning about Kent State, Abdullah knew that this was the place for him. He loves the Kent campus and is involved with a handful of organizations including the Kent Navs and the Kent Skating Club.

When we asked Abdullah about the best part of being at KSU, he told us that it's the new relationships he has made. He is grateful for all of his friends and their help in teaching him the customs and norms of the US culture. One of his favorite pastimes is vlogging; he loves to make videos that his family and friends can watch back home and see what he is up to in Kent. If you want to check out his YouTube channel, it is 3BoodH. When Abdullah isn't studying, skating, or making connections with his fellow Golden Flashes, he enjoys listening to music (especially R&B, Drake, Migos, and the Weeknd) and watching TC. His favorite shows include That 70's Show, Friends, Game of Thrones and Vikings.

Abdullah says that he is very happy he came to Kent State and is always looking to welcome new friends! If you have any questions about the clubs he joined or just want to chat, follow him on Instagram or add him on Facebook. After graduation, he hopes to stay in the US and work in accounting for a few years. His ultimate goal is to follow in his father's footsteps and own his own business one day.

Oman is a country in the Middle East, situated east of UAE and southeast of Saudi Arabia. Half of the country is bordered by the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman, which provide the country with beautiful beaches. Overall, the climate is hot and dry, with variations in the mountains and on the coasts. Abdullah said that the people of Oman are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. In their culture, it is common to help others. If you visit Oman, you'll find that Omanis have big hearts for everyone.

If you would like to be showcased, keep reading to the end of the newsletter for more details.
