Winter 2026: Week Nine

Welcome to Week 9

At Portland Community College, we proudly celebrate Women’s History Month as a time to honor the achievements, resilience, and leadership of women including the many international women who enrich our campus community.

Rooted in education and empowerment, this month reminds us of the vital role women play in shaping our communities, industries, and future generations across the globe.

This year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together: Women Educating & Inspiring Generations,” reflects PCC’s commitment to learning, leadership, and opportunity. We invite you to join us in celebrating and uplifting women’s voices not just this month, but all year long.

Learn about EVENTS celebrating Women’s History Month across campus and join our office as we host special events honoring International Women’s Day and celebrating the strength and impact of women around the world.

Announcements from SEVIS Team

WINTER TERM DEADLINES

Saturday, March 14th* at 10:00 PM: Withdrawal Deadline. Do not withdraw from any of your classes without permission from the SEVIS Coordinator. See how and when to withdraw.

Saturday, March 14th, at 10:00 PM: Change Grade Option (Pass/No Pass) Deadline.

*If your class ends before March 14th, the withdrawal deadline is 10 pm on the day of the last class session.

TRAVEL SIGNATURES

If you leave the United States, you must have a travel signature no older than 6 months on your I-20 to re-enter the US as an F-1 student. Please complete the SEVIS Request Form if you need a new travel signature.

LATE DROPS/WITHDRAWAL

What is Withdrawal?

You can only drop a class until the drop deadline. After that, it’s called a “withdrawal,” and it has different consequences. Do not withdraw from a course without permission from the SEVIS Team. No refunds are available for withdrawn classes.

What happens when you withdraw?

If you withdraw from a course that brings you below 12 credits, or less than the required number of in-person credits, your SEVIS record will be terminated and your F-1 status canceled. In this case, you must depart the U.S. immediately to avoid any negative consequences.

What should you do instead?

Instead, you might be able to change a course grade option from letter grades (A-F) to Pass/No Pass (P/NP). If you have questions about P/NP grades, make an appointment with your academic advisor in Navigate 360. The deadline to make this change in MyPCC is Saturday, March 14, or the day of your last class, whichever is earlier.

36th Annual Cascade Festival of African Films

The 36th Annual Cascade Festival of African Films!

Free and open to the public, this year’s festival features a powerful selection of more than twenty films that reflect the continent’s artistic ingenuity and rich storytelling traditions. Curated around shared themes that connect films across genre, country, and era, the program explores stories on personal, communal, and national levels.

Many of the films examine migration, displacement, and reinvention, revealing the universal search for safety, purpose, and belonging. Women’s voices are especially prominent, offering intimate, bold, and deeply resonant portrayals of strength, vulnerability, and leadership. Across both fiction and documentary, filmmakers also engage with questions of authority, justice, societal expectations, and inequity inviting us to imagine new possibilities in the face of challenge.

The festival poster reflects this spirit, featuring a central figure whose hair transforms into film reels - a symbol of stories carried, protected, and amplified. Histories are braided together, memories unspooled, and narratives that are too often unseen are brought to light.

We invite you to immerse yourself in these films, take part in meaningful conversations, and experience Africa through African lenses. Thank you for supporting the longest-running African film festival in the United States.

Join us in celebrating the brilliance of African cinema and creating moments that resonate well beyond Black History Month.
