International Women's Day: Joining Together to #AccelerateAction

By Christine Lee, Liquidnet, 2025 STA WIF Chair

and Laura Delaney, Virtu Financial, 2025 STA WIF Vice Chair

On behalf of the entire STA Women in Finance Committee, we'd like to wish our members a happy International Women's Day! The focus of International Women's Day this year is #AccelerateAction – a call for all of us to be agents of positive change and make an impact that goes beyond mere words.

This theme is particularly meaningful for our Women in Finance Committee as we tackle the months ahead. During this year's Annual Market Structure Conference, our Women in Finance Symposium will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Since its inception in 2015, the Symposium has quickly become a staple of the conference, honoring senior leaders from all corners of the industry and fostering important conversations.

This milestone is not only a testament to the strong sense of community among our members, but a reflection of the dedication of the entire STA membership in upholding traditions that fuel the advancement of the talented women throughout our industry. Our sustained action to spotlight female leaders has facilitated meaningful introductions and inspired the next generation of women in finance to accelerate their careers, whether by seeking mentors, embracing leadership opportunities, or understanding their worth.

Across industries, more women are excelling, innovating, and leading. However, progress isn’t made from the sidelines. We must actively challenge the status quo, push boundaries, and turn ideas into action. Our outcomes are a reflection of our habits, so set goals and cultivate practices that shape a bold, evolving mindset to propel you forward. Most importantly, when you have the chance to open a door for someone else. Be a mentor, be a sponsor, and create opportunities for the next generation to rise. Whether it’s working inwardly on our careers with grit and perseverance or designing a system that enables success for others to follow, we all play a role in accelerating action.

During Women's History Month and throughout 2025, we're focusing on not only the inspiring ideas that brought STA WIF to where it is today, but the actions taken to see these visions through and deliver tangible results. As your 2025 Chair and Vice Chair, we're excited to bring some new initiatives to light this year, and look forward to working with our local affiliates to help STA WIF reach new heights!
