Upstate International Women's Group
2021-2022 Calendar of Events

|
The International Women’s Group (IWG) established through Upstate International (UI) seeks to bring together women of all nationalities through educational, recreational, and social events. Programs include monthly meetings, walking/hiking, dining, and informal coffee and lunch gatherings as well as a variety of special and cultural events.
The IWG's formal programs usually begin at 10:00am on the first Tuesday of every month from September through May and meet at Upstate International unless otherwise stated. Our informal walks, hikes, coffees, lunches and dinners out are scheduled throughout each month.
The UI Women's Group is a benefit of UI membership and all members are welcome to join any event.

Cooking with Herbs

Raise your culinary skills using herbs from the garden or grocery. Learn how to use herbs in your everyday cookiing. Get tips and tricks on hos to prepare a variety of dishes from appetizers to desseerts using uncomplicated recipes and techniques.

Established in 2020, Jasmine Kitchen is a social enterprise that supports the mission of Jasmine Road to heal, empower and employ adult female survivors of trafficking, prostitution and addiction by offering a path to freedom, a haven for healing and the opportunity to flourish. Jasmine Kitchen, located on Augusta Street, serves a chef-driven lunch menu of Inspired Soups, Salads, Sandwiches & Sweets that are made from scratch daily. Thre is also a retail space that sells candles, jewelry and food specialty items such as house-made Golden Granola.

Join us for this unique Educational Farm Tour.
2 hours 30 minutes · $10 per person, payable on the day of the tour. Experience a soap-making demonstration, delicious goat milk goodies, and of course a hands-on meet & greet with the goats! Bring a picnic lunch or meet your new friends for lunch at one of the many restaurants in Travelers Rest.

Spring Potluck and Plant Exchange

Join the Upstate International Women's Group for our annual Spring Potluck and Plant Exchange. Join us as we celebrate and support each other, connect with your friends and establish new friendships. Our spring potluck is always one of the best get-togethers of the year with delicious food, wonderful company and plants!
Potluck: please bring a dish to share. (Even if you don't have time to cook, you are welcome to enjoy the potluck for an $8 donation.)
Plant exchange is optional, but if you want to participate, please bring a plant, herbs or veggies from your garden – and you can then take a plant. If you are bringing plant(s), please label them.

Hike

Stride and Stroll
2nd Thursday of the month, 9:00 am
Cleveland Zoo parking lot.
Whether you're in the mood for a short stroll or a more vigorous walk on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, join us on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Whichever you choose, let's all stop for coffee at our turn-around point at The Commons. Meet us at 9:00 in the Zoo parking lot and we'll be back at the parking lot by noon.

Fitness Long Walk
4th Tuesday of the month, 9:00 am
Cleveland Zoo parking lot
Challenge yourself with a long walk (total distance is 8 miles) on the Swamp Rabbit Trail on the 4th Tuesday of the month. We will start at the Zoo and walk to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe for a snack or lunch, then walk back. We'll return to the Zoo parking lot at 1:30 pm.

Join the International Women's Club every 3rd Tuesday for our monthly Coffee & Conversation. Meet new people in a relaxed and easy environment, many of us are from abroad while just as many are from the U.S.; we love to share stories and cultures.

Ladies Night Out

Restaurant locations will vary
We all look forward to our once a month Ladies Night Out. Meeting over delicious food and having fun conversations is a great way to get to know us.
Each month we choose a different international restaurant so that we can 'taste' our way around the world without leaving the Upstate. Email us with your suggestions.

Hike Flat Rock and Apple Picking

Meet us Starbucks (parking lot in back)

Join us for a great day of hiking and apple picking while meeting new people. You won't want to miss hiking in Flatrock, NC, visiting the Carl Sandburg Park and apple-picking at the Sky Top Orchard. We will meet in the parking BEHIND Starbucks (on the corner of E. North St. and Pleasantburg/Pelham Road) at 9:00 am and be back by 2:30 pm.
Pack a picnic lunch and bring some cash for apples, delicious apple donuts, etc.

Lake Junaluska/Lunch/ Parkway

Let's take a hike . . . It's an hour and 45 minute drive to Lake Junaluska, NC but you will be rewarded by beautiful lake scenery and Fall colors all around. Pack a picnic lunch or plan to have lunch in one of the many restaurants in nearby Waynesville. For those who are interested and have plenty of time that day, hop on the Blue Ridge parkway for a beautiful scenic ride while enjoying the Fall colors.
This hike is NOT strenuous and is doable for all ages and abilities with a paved walking trail around the lake and stops for coffee and ice cream. As usual, we will meet in the parking lot BEHIND Starbucks at 9:00 am and back later in the afternoon. Pack a picnic lunch and bring some cash.
