Capitol Hill/Politics/Government Relations
|
- The Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security, and Trade is seeking one full-time intern. The Intern will work closely with subcommittee staff while learning the inner workings of Congress and the legislative process. Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, professional, hard-working, and detail-oriented, with strong writing and communication skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment. The internship is telework eligible and will be from September to December 2020. Undergraduate or graduate school students and recent alumni interested in foreign affairs and Western Hemisphere policy are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, answering phones, providing administrative and research support to staff, and assisting with subcommittee hearings and events, among other office and research tasks. Spanish, French or Portuguese proficiency preferred but not required. - The Washington, D.C. Office of Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) is seeking interns for fall 2020. This position is remote. If the public health situation changes significantly, the position could transition to in-office. This position offers an opportunity to learn about the U.S. House of Representatives and gain substantive work experience in an exciting and fast- paced office. Internships are offered on a full-time and part-time basis, and stipends are offered based on need and ties to Tennessee’s 9th District. Interns will work for 10-16 weeks (August-December). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Qualifications: •Demonstrated interest in politics, policy and/or public service. •Strong communications and writing skills. •Hard-working, dependable, detail-oriented and professional. •Self-motivated (especially given that all work is remote). •Ties to Tennessee’s 9th District are a bonus, but not required. Responsibilities: •Assist with constituent correspondence and draft email blasts and other forms of outreach. •Assist virtual briefings and track virtual hearings. •Conduct weekly legislative assignments. •Conduct legislative research on an as-needed basis. The Office of Representative Terri Sewell (AL-07) seeks a highly motivated communications and media fellow to help their legislative and communications team to execute an aggressive press and social media strategy. This position is paid. Responsibilities would include helping create social media assets with an emphasis on video, graphic design, generating and executing plans for social media content, distributing morning clips, media monitoring, and other written and digital product. A qualified candidate will be interested in press strategy, be ready to work in a fast-paced environment and take initiative to accomplish important tasks. Past Hill experience in communications and experience with Adobe suite is preferred. Connections to Alabama and the 7th District are a plus. Entry-Level Jobs for IPS Grads (Bachelor's Required)

- Rocky Mountain Democrat seeks a Staff Assistant to assist both the Washington D.C. and District Office. Currently both offices are in a state of full time telework. Primary duties will include managing the incoming calls to both offices phone systems, assisting with District Office with constituent casework intake, and assisting the Washington D.C. office with legislative work. While physical presence in the Washington D.C. area is not immediately required, applicants must be prepared to relocate within 90 days of hire to be prepared to work out of the Washington D.C. office at such time as the COVID-19 pandemic allows for a return to our physical office space. At such time as the COVID-19 pandemic allows, this individual will fulfill the role of the Staff Assistant in the Washington D.C. office. Those responsibilities will include staffing and managing the front office, answering the phone, greeting visitors, handling tour and flag requests, overseeing the internship program, occasionally driving the Member to and from events during regular office hours and after hours, and providing additional office support as needed. Although this is an entry-level position, candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, great attention to detail, strong time management skills, an ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, and a sense of humor. Capitol Hill experience and/or Western ties are preferred, but not required. Proof of clean driving record is required.
