Fall 2022 - A Newsletter for De La Salle Institute and Lourdes High School Alumni
“The miracles of God’s Providence take place every day.”
Saint John Baptist de La Salle to the first teachers.
Dear graduates of De La Salle Institute and Lourdes High School,

Greetings from 3434 S Michigan Avenue!

This fall we welcomed 771 students to campus, including 221 freshmen coming from 80 zip codes and 110 grade schools. As the academic year got underway, we recognized our 13 AP scholars who scored a "5" on their AP exams last year at our opening school Mass of the Holy Spirit. And, we just learned of our 15 Illinois State Scholars who will be recognized at a breakfast with their parents in late November. Our fall sports are drawing to a close, and winter sports begin in mid-November.
Know that you are always welcome back to campus, whether it is on a school day, at a theater performance or a sports program. Please reach out to Iris Gist Cochran, Director of Development at [email protected] so that we can welcome you.
FORE! the Students
On Saturday, October 1, 2022, 94 alumni and friends gathered at the Water’s Edge Golf Club for the Blue/Gold Invitational. Thank you to the Chavarria family for organizing this event, whose proceeds benefit scholarships for De La Salle students.

Alumni Career Day 2022
The annual Alumni Career Day for all seniors and a select number of juniors was held on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Career Day is meant to provide an opportunity for all students to connect with De La Salle Institute alumni to explore career choices and receive guidance. It’s a great way for alumni to give back to De La Salle and have an immediate impact on current students—our future alumni.

Thirteen alumni speakers were on campus to share information about their careers ranging from law enforcement to computer programming, real estate to physical therapy, and mechanical engineering to transportation. Thank you to our speakers for sharing your time and “paying it forward” your high school experience.
Meteors Re-United

Over 40 alumni graduates from the classes ending in 2’s and 7’s gathered this October to reconnect with classmates. The Honor Key Award, the school’s highest honor given to a graduate or former faculty or staff member of either De La Salle Institute and Lourdes High School, was presented to Gerald A. Smith ‘72.

All Saints Day Mass and Reception
During November, the Church particularly remembers those individuals who have died. All Saints and All Souls Days invite us to focus on our faith and its promise of the resurrection, and recognize our family members, classmates and friends with whom we will one day be reunited.
The De La Salle student body will be celebrating All Saints/All Souls on Tuesday, November 1 with a 12:45 pm liturgy followed by a reception for parents, alumni and friends. Please submit the name(s) of deceased loved ones here.

For many non-profit organizations, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday is called Giving Tuesday, a day to “gift” the organizations in one’s life that support a valuable need.
