IntraContinental is the most geographically challenged region in Women’s League. Other regions can have one-day conferences or even a lunch and learn. The women of IntraContinental have to make an extra effort to keep our Region together and that includes showing up.
Next weekend, May 2-5, we will be holding our 18th Region Conference in Oklahoma City. I have managed to be in attendance at all 18. The friends that I have made are now family and being together with family is extremely important!
On April 16th, the day after tax season, I was on my way to Winnipeg to visit some of my family, many of whom I have not seen since COVID. I was welcomed with open arms and, of course, treated like family. My husband, Milton, had never been to Canada, so we checked something off his bucket list at the same time.
Friday evening, we attended Etz Chayim Synagogue where they were honoring a congregant who had just become a cantor. The music and singing were perfect for the beginning of Shabbat. Afterwards, we were invited to Randy Schwartz’s home with a dozen others to break bread (challah) and enjoy family, friends, and food.
Saturday morning, we attended Shaarey Tzedek Synagogue. I try to read Torah every time I travel and this was no exception. I had very little time to learn due to tax season, and Cantor Lesley was extremely understanding and assigned one of the shorter portions. She acknowledged me and the trope that I use which is sometimes referred to as the “Sheena” trope. My mom and dad raised Torah readers. After Services, we had a delicious lunch and Q&A with many sisterhood members. Relaxed and enjoyable – my perfect Shabbas!
Saturday evening, we were invited to Sandy Polanski’s home for dinner. Sandy was one of the first friends that I made in IntraContinental. My Canadian friends are always in my heart!
All of the women from both synagogues were gracious and hospitable. This was one of my better journeys taken as President. The journeys I will truly miss.
I cannot mention my trip to Canada without letting you know that this Texas woman was in extremely cold weather sometimes feeling like -4. My husband drove carefully in the snow, and we happened to be at the most convenient hotel for the entire weekend. The sun was shining – that always helps.
Thank you, Winnipeg! A job well done!
